Mrs. Daniel's First Grade Homepage January 2009 Happy New Year!! Language Arts: Blending words with vowel sounds. Using decoding skills to learn new vocabulary. Apply new vocabulary to better comprehension. Learn and apply digraphs. Math: Addition and subtraction Organizing data using graphs and tallies. Begin fractional amounts and probability. Writing: Extending our thoughts in a story Using "sparkle words" to make our stories interesting. Begin to use transitional words to move your story along. Science: How does winter affect plants and animals? Please read your weekly classroom newsletter and check your child's daily agenda for specific dates and activities. "Baggie Books" are sent home each Monday and Wednesday. AR Tests are administered on Tuesday and Thursday. Remember a passing score is 80% or higher. If your child does not pass the test, he/she will bring the book back home for another reading.
