Welcome to all who have come this way!

November 2 - November 6, 2009

This week starts the second quarter of this school year.  Please make certain that your student has plenty of notebook paper and pencils.

Most of second quarter will be sandwiched between holidays.  The chopped up weeks and lessons will make studying and learning difficult for your student.  Please help your student by checking daily to see that assignments have been completed.  It will be extremely difficult to make up missed assignments with all the holidays this quarter.

Please help your student stay healthy during this flu season.  Help them to get plenty of rest; drink plenty of water; eat healthy foods...and wash their hands often.

Check the Rowan Salisbury Schools homepage for information about the H1N1 flu.

This week in Language Arts we will turn our attention to reading skills.  Students will take the first ClassScapes benchmark test this week.  This is a practice for our End of Grade tests in May.  This assessment will let us know what your student has mastered and what they need to work on for mastery.  Encourage your student to take this assessment seriously.  Your student has a book review due on November 30th.  It may be turned in early.

In math this week, we will also take a ClassScape benchmark for math.  We will learn to do two-step equations and then begin our unit on Integers!!!  Later this quarter we will begin working with decimals and fractions.  Much of these units will be done without a calculator!!  Please do not allow your student to do homework with a calculator.

I ask again to help your student stay on top of the assignments.  This quarter is so chopped up with holidays that it will be almost impossible to get caught up.

A phone call (704-857-7946, ext. 817), a note, or an e-mail are the easiest ways to contact me.
