Number 3 WRHS Guidance

Please read carefully and see if you are eligible to apply for these scholarships. Information and/or applications are available in the Guidance Office.
Attention Parents/ Students
*Financial Aid/Scholarship Information Meeting for parents/students Wednesday, November 18,2009, 5:30-7:00 p.m. in the WRHS Media Center.
* Help with college application-CFNC College Application Week. November 16-20 Help will be available with college applications in the WRHS Media Center 2:30-4:30 p.m. Sign up ahead of time in the Guidance Office.
1. Sam Walton Community Scholarship. Awards $3,000 to students for the first year of undergraduate study at an approved accredited college or university. Go to www.walmartfoundation.org click on scholarship program. Deadline January 29, 2010.
2. National FFA Scholarships. Numerous scholarship opportunities available for FFA members at www.ffa.org. Click on Award Programs and then Scholarships. Available on-line November 15, 2009. Deadline February 15, 2010.
3. Burger King Scholars Program. Awards $1,000. Eligible students must have 2.5 GPA, work at least 15 hours per week for 40 weeks per year, demonstrate community service and extracurricular activities, and demonstrate financial need. Go to www.bk.com/scholars. Deadline is February 15, 2010.
4. Hispanic Scholarship Fund. $1,000 to $2,500. Open to community college, 4-year college and graduate students of Hispanic heritage. Based on academic achievement, letter of recommendation, personal statement and financial need. Hispanic Scholarship Fund at (877) 473-4636 or (415) 808-2376. Google Hispanic Scholarship Foundation of North Carolina.
5. Scholarships for Children of Disabled or Deceased Veterans, Combat Veterans, or POW/MIA War Veterans. See Mrs. Beard for information or contact the Veterans Service a 336 766-1496.
6. Gates Millennium Scholarship. Application materials available at www.gmsp.org. Established for outstanding low income African American, American Indian/Alaska natives, Asian Pacific Islander Americans and Hispanic American students. Must have 3.3 unweighted GPA and must meet Federal Pell Grant requirements. On-line applications submitted by January 11, 2010.
7. Michael A. DeMayo Scholarship. Packets are available in the Guidance Office or applications may be downloaded at www.DeMayo.com. Deadline is March 1, 2010.
8. NC Alpha Delta Kappa Scholarship. Several scholarships available for male and female students interested in a career in education. See Mrs. Beard for more information.
Deadline is February 2, 2010.
9. KFC Colonel’s Scholars. Online scholarship application will be available from December 1, 2009 to February 10, 2010 at www.kfcscholars.org.
10. NASCAR Scholarship. Plan to attend NASCAR Technical Institute. Log on to www.utifoundation.net.
11. American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program. See Mrs. Beard for more information.
12. Levine Scholarship- New UNCC Scholarship- 4 years worth $90,00. Students must be nominated online by high school counselor. See Mrs. Beard if you are interested by November 10th. Students should be committed to community service, excellent academic record, ethical leadership skills.
13. Civitan Club of Salisbury offers two scholarships. One is the Clifford Peeler Humanitarian which is a county wide scholarship and the other is the Michael Yang scholarship which goes to a West Rowan student. Pick up an application in Guidance-Applications are due January 22 ,2010.
14. Information on Catawba Education Scholarships and Ruckus House scholarships for elementary or special education is available in guidance.

- Contact your chosen college/university early for further information about their scholarships.
