Please read carefully and see if you are eligible to apply for these scholarships. Information and/or applications are available in the Guidance Office. Many of these have online applications.
2. AXA Achievement Community Scholarship. Awards scholarships to seniors who demonstrate ambition and drive, determination, respect for self, family and the community, and ability to succeed in college. Awards range from $10,00 to $15,000. Applications can be downloaded at www.axa-achievement.com. Deadline is December 15, 2009.
3. Centennial Scholarship at NC State College of Textiles. Awards scholarships to students interested in pursuing a career in engineering, business management, chemistry, design, etc. WRHS may nominate two students. See Mrs. Beard by October 14th to be considered for nomination.
4. John Montgomery Belk Scholarships. Awarded to incoming freshmen at Davidson College. Awarded to top seniors who excel in academics, leadership, and community service. WRHS may nominate one senior. See Mrs. Beard by October 30th to be considered for nomination.
5. Ron Brown Scholar. Eligible applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents and African American. Early deadline November 1st. Applications available at www.ronbrown.org.
6. Robertson Scholars Program at Duke University/UNC Chapel Hill. Four-year scholarships. Students must complete a supplemental materials form at www.robertsonscholars.org. Deadline December 1, 2009.
7. Elon University Fellows Academic and Scholarship Programs. Fellows programs in honors, business, journalism and communication, liberal arts and sciences leadership, & NC Teaching Fellows. Scholarships range from $2,000 to $6,000. Applications available at www.elon.edu/fellows. Deadline January 10, 2010.
8. NC National Teenager Scholarship Pageant for Young Women. See website for more information. www.ncscnationalteen.com.
9. Burger King Scholars Program. Must work 15 hours per week but you do not have to work at Burger King. Got to www.bk.com/scholars. Deadline is February 1, 2010.
10. North Carolina Teaching Fellows. Competitive scholarship for students who agree to teach minimum of 4 years in North Carolina. $6500/ year. See Mrs. Beard ASAP.
11. 2009 Young Entrepreneurs Scholarship Awards. www.NFIB.com/YEA
12. VFW Voice of Democracy. www.vfw.org. Go to programs tab, then scholarships, and choose “Voice of Democracy”. See Mrs. Beard for more information. 2009-10 Theme “When is the Right time to Honor Our Military Heroes?”
13. Elks Legacy Awards-for children of those involved in Elks Club. Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship. Go to www.elks.org/enf/scholars. Paper copies available in Guidance.
14. Washington Crossing Foundation. For students interested in history or politics. Go to gwcf.org or call 215 949-8841.
15. John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest. For complete guidelines and to Register, go to www.jfklibrary.org.
16. Prudential Spirit of Community Award. It is given for outstanding community service. Visit http://spirit.prudential.com or www.principals.org/prudential. Click on “ How to Apply” link and follow instructions. Access key is the word “spirit”. Submit application to Guidance Office by November 2, 2009.
17. Michael A. DeMayo Scholarship. Applications available at www.DeMayoLaw.com. Paper applications available in Guidance.
