AND 4th and 5th grade AIG Classes I hope you are enjoying your summer:) We will begin the school year by studying inventors. 4th and 5th grade reading AIG students will complete an independent project using a self-selected biography and at least 2 other resources. Students will create their own invention, a timeline and present their inventor in a Wax Museum. We will also begin the 2010/2011 School Year with a Mystery Study... Remember: READ READ READ Our concept for this school year will be --------??? 4th and Fifth Grade AIG students will also working on Writing! The AIG Reading Students will use stems to analyze and learn new vocabulary. They will learn new stems and take tests about every two weeks throughout the school year. They will also learn new vocabulary as we complete Novel Studies. Please have your child read 20 minutes each night and talk about their reading. Your child should have questions to quide your discussions. Parents, please sign his/her reading log. We have seen great progress with the students who are commited to reading every night. Thank you parents and students for reading. Reading is like sports, we only get better if we practice. Continue to practice and review multiplication facts, multi digit multiplication and division. 1st QUARTER MATH SKILLS Coming Soon! 4th Grade Students must be proficient in PROBLEM SOLVING using MULTIPLE STRATEGIES! MULTIPLICATION and DIVISION: Continue Long Division and Multiplication with large numbers FRACTIONS: Adding and Subtracting including mixed numbers, Equivalent, Ordering Fractions with and without number lines Decimals: Adding, Subtracting and ordering MEASUREMENT: Area and Perimeter of plane figures GEOMETRY: Use a coordinate grid to locate the position of an object and to draw figures on a grid DATA and ANALYSIS: Design experiments and list all of the possible outcomes (probability) Median, Mode and Range ALGEBRA: Verify Mathematical Relationships Using Proportion and determine how changes in one quantity relate to changes in another quantity (use numerical, pictorial and symbolic representation) Order of Operations, Identity, Commutative, Associative, Distributive Properties 5th Grade Students must be proficient in PROBLEM SOLVING using MULTIPLE STRATEGIES IN ALL MATHEMATICAL TOPICS!
