         KINDERGARTEN CLASS

Our class continues to learn new things each and every day. We are excited to begin learning about the following...

Language Arts: We will be reviewing all of our letters and letter sounds during the fourth quarter.  We will also begin learning blends: cl, bl, and gl. We will be learning new blends and digraphs each week.  We will be making a blend and digraph book to share.         

Book and print awareness concepts to point out when reading to your child: Title, front and back of the book, Author, Illustrator,where to begin reading,first word and last word in a sentence ,period, question mark, exclamation mark,and quotation marks. We will learn about characters in a story and the setting of a story.We will also begin to focus more on comprehension when we listen and read to stories.

Reading: Please continue to listen to your child read as he or she brings home their blue reading log book. Please remember to sign the sheet located inside when they have read the book to you. The books will begin to increase in words and difficulty as the students are developing their reading skills. 

Math: During the fourth quarter  we will begin to learn abount money (pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters and the dollar)  We will also study time, addition and subtraction.

Science: We will  learn about spring and how our enviornment changes.  We will learn about birds, weather and butterflies.

Writing: We will learn the proper way to print our letters and how to write our first and last name. In Writers Workshop we are learning how to write and illustrate stories using our popcorn words and letter sounds. We will also continue working on writing two or more sentences in our stories. We will be writing stories about Spring: birds, butterflies, flowers and our class fieldtrips to Patterson Farm and Dan Nicholas Park.
