
MRS. SHOVLIN'S RLA PAGE Grammar There will be no grammar lessons this week.
Novel Updates Period 1- The Cay We have read the first two chapters in the book. By the end of Friday, we will have completed a vocabulary worksheet and listed the characters we have met so far in the story. Students will be filling out a story board for the first two chapters. Periods 1 and 5 took notes on Theodore Taylor, author of The Cay. These notes will be used on Friday to write a summary about Theodore Taylor. Period 3-The Adventures of Tom Sawyer As a class we have read aloud the first three chapters. Students should have filled out information for chapters one, two ,and three on their prediction chart and should have listed the characters they have met so far on the Character Connections (page 10 of the packet). Students should also have begun keeping a list of the new words they are coming across as they read the book. Tuesday: We worked on answering questions 1-9 and the vocabulary sheet in the packet. Students will complete the questions for homework. Wednesday: Students began a tour of Mark Twain' s home. Students should also have begun the Prediction sheet in the packet. On Tuesday we will read chapter 3 and work on the questions in the packet. Homework will be to complete the questions. Period 5 - The Cay Students have read the first two chapters and will begin reading chapter 3 on Tuesday. Storyboard worksheet was completed on Chapter 1 and we will do one for Chapter 2 on Tuesday. These sheets will be the Reading section of their binders. Students will write down questions they have for chapters 2 and 3. The worksheet for this is in their Reading section of their binders.
All groups will be visiting the Media Center on Wednesday and will be working on a Note Taking assignment with Mrs. Mayo. We will spend the entire period in the Media Center on that day. The activities we are doing are related to the novels we are reading in class.

Homework Monday: Write misspelled words five times each. Complete spelling worksheet. Tuesday: Periods 1 and 5 - Fill in questions you have for chapters 2 and 3 on the Dual-Entry Journal worksheet that is in your Reading section of your binder. Period 3- Complete questions 1-9 in your packet on chapters 1-3. (You will have some class time to work on these.) Period 4 - Complete questions for chapters 1 and 2 in your packet.
