Dear Parents,
    This is a busy week which will end with Morgan’s Fall Festival on Saturday, October 15.  Please come to this fun event. It is one of our major fund raisers, and you and your child will have a great time! Both lunch and supper are served. Classroom and outside games are from 3:00 to 7:00. Cakes, pies, etc., are due on Friday! Thank you for all your help!!

   

Monday we will go to Liberty Fire Station and will learn about fire safety. Be sure to ask your child about this.
   
Tuesday is School Picture Day. You should have gotten information about this last week.

   
Book Fair is Tuesday – Saturday.

2nd Grade Parent Night -- Tuesday, October 25, 5:30 - 6:30
We will talk about report cards and second grade expectations this evening.
We will be sending out sign-up sheets for Fall Conferences later this week.


Homework


READING:        We will begin a study of poetry and will continue this on and off through the month. Read poems in reading book, pp. 112–121, and answer questions on homework sheet.  Do nightly reading with favorite books!

SPELLING:        Test on Thursday. Words this week are from our 200 high-frequency chart.

VOCABULARY:     No reading vocabulary test this week.

MATH:            Math Vocabulary -- Test on Friday
sum— the answer to an addition problem

difference— the answer to a subtraction problem

even number— a number that ends in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8    
(For example: 4 or 26 or 352).


odd  number— a number that ends in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9    
(For example: 9 or 47 or 261).


equal— have the same amount, size, number, or value

number sentence— uses numbers, operation signs (+, –, x, or ÷), and an equals sign (=)
For example: 2 + 3 = 5   or   9 – 6 = 3


Build Greater Understanding:
Even numbers can be divided into two equal parts and can be made from equal pairs.
For example:     18 is even and can be made from the same number, as with 9 + 9 = 18

Even numbers are the numbers you get when you count by 2s!

Odd numbers cannot be divided into two equal parts and must be made from different numbers.
For example:    17 is odd and cannot be made from the same number, as with 9 + 8 = 17


Earn 100 points each week by reading 4 nights and putting this on calendar.
