Happy New Year! Join us for our first grade Celebration of Learning on January 4th from 6:30-7:30. (Snowdate 1/11/12) The students have worked on reading fluency by practicing various choral, partner and solo selections to share about holiday celebrations and diversity. They also have projects, music and movement activities to show you.
In Social Studies we will continue to develop our understanding of basic map skills. We will discuss fairness and equality as we read about Martin Luther King, Jr., reviewing diversity and what makes people the same all around the world. In Science, the weather and the season of winter will be observed and discussed. Math and Fundations Topics 6 and 7 will be taught. Look for the Home Link letters so you can reinforce the concepts covered with your child at home. DRA and Dibels testing will be done to assess areas of strengths and weaknesses in reading so that I can work more successfully with your child at their ability level. Students will continue to write stories narratives using BRAIDY to help organize their work. Our UCONN interns, reading tutors and student teacher will return at the end of the month. Students only stay in for recess when the wind chill factors in below 20 degrees. Please be sure your child has appropriate clothing for outdoors. Only students with boots and snowpants as well as coats, gloves and hats are allowed onto the field area. Otherwise, students remain on the blacktop. There is no recess on shortened school days. |
