AIG - 4th Grade Reading
(M-F, 8:30-9:30)

We are continuing the Jacob's Ladder Reading Comprehension Program.  The students have become familiar with the ladder system and the expectation of each ladder rung. For each reading, students with be asked 6 questions on different cognitive levels (see ladder rungs below).  The students have read two myths.

Before going on to a fable ladder, we will spend the rest of this week exploring mythology and Greece, the origin of many myths we are reading this week.  We will be independently reading, discussing, comparing/contrasting, describing characters, summarizing stories, writing (student choice--either expository or narrative), researching Greece online, and creating projects.  This is going to be an exciting week!

These skills correlate with the song that your child has probably been singing everyday after school (like everyone at Faith)!  If you haven't heard it yet, ask your child to sing it to you-- they all know it well!! They have memorized the meanings of some important words:

Trace means to outline;

Analyze, to break it down;

Infer, read between the lines;

Evaluate, to judge.

Formulate, build and create;

Describe, tell me all about it;

Support, back it up;

Explain, tell me why.

Summarize, the short version;

Compare things that are alike,

Contrast things that are different;

Predict, think about the future.

Please, please don't hesitate to call, email, or stop by for any reason.  I always want to be on the same page as my students' parents, so please come to me with any concern.  Your child's education, safety, and happiness are truly top priorities.

Thanks for all you do as parents!
