February 6-10, 2012 Announcements: Dear Parents, My name is Lucy Hunt, and I am a student at the University of Southern Mississippi. My area of focus is English Licensure, and I am thrilled to have your children for my first experience in practice teaching! I look forward to a fun and successful six weeks—I appreciate your support and please feel free to email me if you have any questions. My email address is lucy.matthews@eagles.usm.edu. Thank you so much! Lucy Hunt
Objectives and Homework for this Week:
Weekly Objectives: We will learn about adjective and adverb prepositional phrases, drawing conclusions within a reading passage, using the right spelling word in context, and story vocabulary. There will be an adjective/adverb phrase quiz on Friday as well as a weekly reading test on conclusions and a Unit Spelling Test covering Lists 13-16. Homework Monday - Work on rough draft of the play you started in class today. Use your prewriting to help you. Rough draft not due until Thursday. Study handouts, notes, and daily work for weekly tests. Tuesday - Continue to work on rough draft of play. Study handouts, notes, and daily work. Wednesday - Complete rough draft of play. Study handouts, notes, and daily work. Thursday - Finish writing out final copy of play (with revisions you made in class). Study for tests tomorrow: Unit spelling, reading on drawing conclusions, and adjective and adverb phrases. Notebook Check: I will begin having notebook checks for a daily grade throughout the 9-week term. Students must keep their binders organized with their handouts, notes, and daily work in the right place. Students should have 3 sections marked with subject tab dividers: Reading, Spelling, and Language. I have provided plastic page protectors to all students to keep their current handouts in. These should be placed in the front of each section of the appropriate subject. Students are also suppose to have a "Standland Bell Work Folder" for me. I will be checking for this too. Students must have ample paper, pencils, checking pens, and highlighters during my class!
