Riding the Waves to Success! Dear Parents, We are well into the first quarter. *So Remember to: Sign agendas EVERY night Check for homework daily Thursday folder - look over your child's work, sign, and send back to school (keep business related fliers) Be sure library books are at school daily! Have your child read 30 min. or more daily Encourage your child to Always do his/her best With just these few reminders, I'm sure that we will see a difference. There are other ways that you can help as well, so read all of the suggestions below. If your child is experiencing problems with math or any other subject, contact me to discuss what can be done at home to improve success. DAILY SCHEDULE 8:00-9:00 Arrival and morning work 9:00-10:20 Language Arts/Reading 10:20-11:50 Math Activity 11:50-12:20 Lunch/Bathroom 12:20-1:00 Recess 1:00-1:45 Science/Social Studies 1:45-2:25 Enhancements Monday-Art Wednesday-MGC Thursday-Music Friday-PE 2:25-3:00 Remedial Language/Closure 3:00-3:10 Pack-up and dismissal Homework is Monday through Friday. They will have spelling and vocabulary words daily and other subjects periodically. Occasionally, a week long project is expected. Monday - ABC order Tuesday - Sentence writing with spelling words Wednesday - Words three times each Thursday - Study for spelling test on Friday Our AR goal each nine weeks is 12 points! A few advanced readers have higher points to attain. However, at 12 points that requires approximately two .5 books passed per week. Please help your child to keep up with this. Also, your child must read at their independent level with 85% accuracy. The AR reports keep you up with these changes. Don't hesitate to ask if you have questions. Keep reviewing the 500 words from the high frequency word list. Each student will be tested on reading and spelling each of these words throughout the year. PLEASE help your child learn/memorize all of their multiplication facts. We are using these skills daily to tackle division and fractions. Also, look over word problems with your child. We have high expectations for all of our students at Koontz Elementary! Please feel free to ask questions between now and the EOG tests, if needed. Thanks for being part of our TEAM this year! Sincerely, Sheila Benfield |
