Library

Kindergarten  - They will be listening to stories and completing worksheets to go with the stories.

First Grade - Will be working on learning about different parts of the library.  They will also be learning about the author and illustrators of books.

Second Grade - Will be working on ABC order. They will also listen to different books being read each week.  

Third Grade - They will be discussing the different parts of books and will be putting words into ABC order.

Fourth Grade - They will be looking at each of the nonfiction sections of the library and what books make up these sections.  They will be able to put the call numbers in the correct order.

Fifth Grade - They will be looking at different parts of books.  They will be able to design their own cover.  They will also learn how to look for a book when they know only the subject. 

Sixth Grade - Will be reading magazine articles and be able to pick out the important facts, find the main idea, and list supporting details.  They will then be able to summarize the article using their own words.

    

 

I hope all is going well and you have electricity.  The snow days just keep piling up.  If any of you would like to begin your homework feel free to do so.  We will complete this story next week.  Enjoy your time at home!  Hopefully I will see you soon! 

First Grade Reading:  Week of February 8, 2010

Reading Vocabulary Words:  also - know - moved - only - room - should - those - write

Spelling Words: me - mean - bean - be - beet - feet - low - road - who - door 

Spelling - Every week the students will be writing sentences for each of the spelling words.  They may start this whenever they want and complete a few sentences a night if they choose.  This homework assignment is due on Thursday.

Monday, February 8th 

Students will be introduced to the new story "A Bed Full of Cats."  They will discuss the new vocabulary words and be able to read them in sentences.  In Phonics they will be introduced to the short e sound and in spelling they will have the long e sound in their words.

Homework: Reading - Read aloud the story.

Spelling -  Study the words.

 

Tuesday, February 9th

Reading - The students will read the story "A Bed Full of Cats" aloud to the teacher and answer comprehension questions.  They will learn that they need to capitalize special holidays.  They will also be able to use long e and vocabulary words in sentences.

Homework: Reading - Study  words

                Spelling -  Write the words 3x each.

Wednesday, February 10th

Reading - The students will read the story aloud to the teacher.  We will review Word Power in the book and discuss ways to care for pets. They will continue to work on the short e sound in phonics.  In spelling the students will review the words.  They will write the words and circle the letters that make the long e sound.

 

Homework: Reading - Read the story and study words.

                Spelling - Use each word in a sentence.

Thursday, February 11th 

Students will be given and evaluation on "A Bed Full of Cats".  They will also complete a Spelling Test.

Parents please review the Reading vocabulary words nightly.  The students are now beginning to read most of the test on their own now.  It is important the each child feels confident that he or she knows all the vocabulary words.
