The Book-It Program begins in October. The first book report is due Oct. 30. October 12-16 we will discus fire safety. In Reading we will continue learning about nouns, action words, rhyming words, naming and telling parts of sentences. We are also learning how to edit sentences. We will begin to learn about plurals and adjectives. Students are learning new vocabulary words each week. Please practice words often in order for your student to become confident with their sight words. In math we are exploring addition and subtraction facts. We are learning about fact families and how they are “related.” Please practice addition and subtraction facts to ten with your student. During writing will be writing about pizza, firefighters and pumpkins. October offers lots of exciting topics of study; please ask your student to share what he/she has learned each day.

* Remember to check your student's folder each evening. This is my main source of communication with you. * Should you need to send in ANY item, please send it in your child's folder (lunch money, book orders, homework envelopes, etc.). * Please send all monies in an envelope with your student's name, my name, and what the money is for on the front. When sending money for different items please place it in separate envelopes. * If the mode of transportation needs to change for your student, I MUST have a note. Please send a note stating how your student will be going home. I will not be allowed to change the mode of transportation without a note signed by a parent. *Remember to listen to your student read each night and record it in the Reading Log. *Students will be given a homework grade each 9 weeks. A point is deducted for time homework is not turned in. Thank you for all you do to ensure that your student is prepared for class each day because learning happens everyday in first grade. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me via email or call the school at 442-6170. Thanks for visiting our site, I hope that you found it helpful. Robin Wates |
