Students should be choosing topics for their Ecology Invasive species project. You need to research and plan the layout of your final project. You may choose powerpoint presentation, posterboard display, 3-D diorama, or research paper. All projects are due June 7th. Make sure you sure you complete the fill in chart assignment worksheet "Introduced Species Information" so you have the necessary data.
Study your notebooks, previous assignments , and your study guide....
ANALYSIS questions need to be completed for homework. Be very detailed in your answers, this will help you prepare for upcoming district test that will be at the end of the week.
1.
If you were Carla, would you:a.
want to join the Willow Grove Water District or continue to use wellwater? Be sure to explain the trade-offs involved and the advantages
and disadvantages of each water source based on information you
gathered over the course of the unit.
b.
drink water from the tap or buy bottled water for drinking?2.
Reflection: In the last activity and this one, you looked at the waterissue in Willow Grove from several perspectives: that of the water
district, a consulting scientist, Acme Metals Company, Shadow Hills
Homeowners’ Association, and Carla as an individual. People,
businesses, agencies, and organizations that are involved in a decision
about an issue are called stakeholders.
a.
Why is it important to look at an issue from many perspectives inorder to make a decision about it?
b.
Do you personally identify with one perspective over others? Whatinformation leads you to identify with that perspective?
Students are required to complete the following assignment. Using the information about "Willow Grove's Water Quality" from the KWL chart that you created or the one that Mrs. Willinger gave you in class today...Pretend you work for the water district and create a water report in 7-10 complete sentences that summarizes our research.
Students are required to have their story about the journey of the water molecule to be completed to be read and or turned in for grade by Tuesday January 24, 2012.
Students have been doing labs creating solutions this week and studying for are upcoming midterm on Friday. Please use the given study guides and vocab lists to prepare. I will be available to those who want extra guided study time after school tomorrow beginning at 2:05. There is a late bus at 4:00. Please study to be best prepared for Fridays mid term. Most of the questions will be review from previous assessments. A few reminders***Solvent is the water or liquid that dissolves the substance in a solution. A solution is a mixture of one or more substances in water. Solute is the chemical that dissolves. Example: If the solution is saltwater, salt is the solute and water is the solvent. Dilution is to add water to a solution. Concentrated is the opposite of dilution. So if there is a lot of salt in the solution it is concentrated. If there is a lot of water it is diluted. Happy studying :)
Excellent job with all my students as we have begun a new unit on water! So far we have learned about contamination and water testing. All students have participated in the water tasting activity and are required to complete the analysis questions for their portfolio. If you have not complete the analysis questions yet, I am including them below. Please be neat and complete on a fresh sheet of paper. You will need your data/lab sheet from class.
1) Which water sample tasted best to you and why?
2) Would you spend the extra money on bottled spring water, after your taste test experience? Why or why not?
3) Some people might disagree with your decision for analysis question 2. What might their reasons be?
4) Reflection: What other information about spring, tap, and distilled water would you like to investigate further before you make a final decision about what water to drink?
Remember to do you best work, RAVE your answers in order to be complete as possible :)
Great job with the review today. Just a reminder to all my students to get a good night sleep and and study your review packets for tomorrow's District Assessment.
Students are working on their "green" computer proposals. Students read and recorded features from computer companies and for homework they need to choose from proposal A, B, C or D and analyze how those features affect the life cycle of the computer. You will need your packet from today's lesson and will need to complete student sheet 29.2 with your proposal choice and the details of the "green" features.
Students created a new material today in class by combining two liquids. They observed a chemical reaction as the new material was made. They have their data tables from today's observation and experiment and are responsible for completeing the analysis question and bringing the packet back tomorrow. Thank you
Students were giving a packet in class today and are responsible for completeing the 2nd page "polymers in daily life"...Thank you and good job on the assessment testing.
