Third grade news                              October 18, 2010

Wednesday is Parent Teacher Conference.  You may pick-up report cards from 1:00 – 6:00.  HJpe to see you then…..

Studies for this week: 

Reading:   Unit 2 page 201 “Danger- Icebergs” Test on Friday.  Please read the story several times with your child and ask them questions about the story.

Spelling:  Unit 8 page 60.    Pretest Thursday and test on Friday.  We are writing our words in cursive.

Language: pages 96-99. Singular and plural possessive nouns, combining sentences by joining two nouns, and abbreviations. Test on Friday.

Math: Chapter 4 and 5. We will work on this for the next two weeks.  Addition and subtraction.  We will also be working on multiplication facts.  It is very important we memorize these facts.

Social Studies: pages 72-77 People move from place to place.  Test Thursday.  Study guide in home work folder.

Anytime work is sent home, I encourage you to review the work with your child.

          iceberg - a large mass of ice floating in the sea

          ice pack - a large area of ice floating in the sea

          lifeboats - strong open boats with oars, specially built for saving lives at sea

         Titanic - large ship thought to be unsinkable that sank on its maiden voyage     when it struck an iceberg
