After some confusion as the location of the re-districting public hearings (the Salisbury Post printed one schedule, the RSS website had another...) it has been confirmed that the Nov. 2nd meeting will be held at Knox Middle School and the Nov. 9th meeting will be held at Southeast Middle School.

Keep spreading the word!  Angela Shoaf's letter was in the Post last Thursday.  Lindsey Shoaf and Chris Townsend's letters were in the Post on Monday!  Mrs. Shoaf's letter sparked a second letter from one of the WRMS parents.  People are reading and taking notice... let's keep up the good work!

Re-Districting:

Our booster meeting on Oct. 22nd primarily focused on the effects of re-districting on West Rowan as a whole and specifically on the band program and other programs like FFA, athletics, etc..  A link to the proposed map can be found on the district website: http://www.rss.k12.nc.us

We developed the following plan of action:

1)  Get contact info for all affected students in the West District.  Have students/parents contact those individuals and coordinate their efforts to oppose the plan.
2)  Make contacts with the other affected areas across the county, especially in the East district which will be losing a large area to North, and attempt to coordinate the efforts of each district's affected students/parents
3)  Encourage SGA to get a student movement underway to not only visibly oppose the proposed plan but to also get student representatives to speak at the public hearings
4)  Flood the board members with phone calls/emails opposing the plan and assuring them that we do not want to re-elect board members that support it
5)  Flood the Salisbury Post with letters to the editor (Angela Shoaf's made the paper on 10/22!)

All parents and students must understand that, regardless of what district your home will be in if they accept the proposed district lines, it WILL affect every student at West Rowan High School.  Some funds are allocated to each school based on the number of students enrolled - less students = less funding.  Less students also means less faculty.  With fewer faculty there will be far less options for Honors/AP courses to help students keep compete for scholarships and college acceptance.  What happens to the band program?  It will eliminate one entire concert band, half of the percussion ensemble and the "Marching Falcons" would only be 35-members strong.  Help us fight for all of our programs here at West Rowan!

Remember:  Fruit pick-up will be on Friday, Dec. 11th at the Moore Farm in Mt. Ulla from 4:00PM - 7:00PM.  Do not send your customers to pick up their fruit!  We will only send the complete order home with the student and/or parent.
