Thank you to everyone who interviewed and auditioned for our 2012 Leadership Staff!  There were many FANTASTIC interviews and auditions this year and the decision process is very difficult, time-consuming and emotionally challenging!  Even though we cannot possibly place everyone on staff, we are proud of each and every student who came out to interview and I commend you for putting forth a strong effort - and for wanting to make a difference in your band!

Remember, the decisions are final and are made in the best interest of the students and the band as a whole.  If your name does not appear on the list, remember that we still want and need you as a member of the "Marching Falcons!"  Congratulations to EVERYONE on a job well-done!

Information for the 2012 "Marching Falcons" has been handed out!  The packets have been "streamlined" and we have made limited "hard copies" to save paper, so if you are able to print the registration information at home, please do so!  It is now available for download from this webpage.  All registration materials are due by June 8th!

We're proud to announce our 2012 Field Show - "Rhythm and BLUE!"  This production will consist of three movements.  The first is primarily based on the idea of "rhythm" and will include some great "grooves!"  The second tune will be based on the color blue with tunes like "Rhapsody in Blue" and "Blue Skies."  The last movement will be a medley of classic and modern R&B (Rhythm and Blues) tunes and is sure to be lots of fun!

Weekly Schedule: May 21st - May 25th

The school year is rapidly coming to a close - we only have 9 school days left before exams!  Last week we had a lot of good interviews for staff positions in the "Marching Falcons" and saw another round of great performances by the brass quintet, flute trio, jazz bands and percussion ensemble!  With so little time left in the 2011-2012 school year, we're pushing hard preparing for our 1st Annual "Pops in the Park" Concert this Friday at Cleveland Town Park!  This week's schedule can be found below:

- Monday:  Classroom Rehearsal, "Marching Falcons" Drum Major Auditions and Interviews (3:30pm - 5:00pm)
- Tuesday:  Classroom Rehearsal, Progress Reports, "Falcon Connection" Jazz Band Rehearsal (3:00pm - 4:00pm), Band Boosters (6:30pm)
- Wednesday:  Classroom Rehearsal
- Thursday:  Combined Classroom Rehearsal with percussion, "West Winds" Jazz Rehearsal (3:00pm - 4:00pm)
- Friday:  Concert Run-through, Pack and Load Equipment, "Pops in the Park" Concert (Cleveland Town Park - 7:00pm)
*Call-times: 6:00pm for Wind Ensemble, 6:20pm for Concert Band
*Concert Dress: Due to our outdoor concert location and a forecast for mid-80's, concert dress will be a solid color top with black slacks, dress or knee-length skirt.
- Ladies: Your tops must have sleeves (both long-sleeve and short-sleeve are acceptable) and cannot be "low-cut." Although we are not in concert black, it is still a formal event!
- Gentlemen: Either long or short sleeve shirts will be fine, BUT your shirt must have a collar (polo, button-up dress shirt, etc.) and must be tucked in!
- If you arrive for the concert wearing inappropriate concert attire you will be asked to change or receive a "80" for your concert grade.

- Next Week:  No School Monday! "Meet & Greet" for rising 9th graders, WRMS Concert, Progress Reports due!

 WRHS Band Boosters:

Our next booster meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 22nd at 6:30pm in the band room.  We'll be making final preparations for the "Pops in the Park" Concert, the "Meet 'n' Greet" for rising 9th graders and all our other year-end activities.  We hope to see everyone there!

Congratulations to the 2012 "Marching Falcons" Drumline

Congratulations to everyone who auditioned for the 2012 Drumline.  There were many tough decisions to be made in placing everyone on the appropriate instrument.  However, in the end, we believe we have a battery that will be the best balance for our winds, offer the best educational experience for our students and provide the best instrumentation for the percussion section as a whole.  Congratulations to our 2012 Drumline:

Cymbals:
Hunter Honeycutt

Snare Drum:
Marius Doyle
Marcus Clonts

Tenors:
Zac Hunter

Bass Drums:
Sadie Hannold (Bass 1)
Malachi Cooper (Bass 2)
Cameron Hassard (Bass 3)
Alex Pate (Bass 4)

Congratulations to the 2012 "Marching Falcons" Colorguard

The colorguard auditions this past week were hands-down the most pleasant round of guard auditions I have hosted at West Rowan.  Thanks to Mr. Payne for lending his expertise and ALL of the ladies who auditioned for their dedication and hard work.  I've never worked with a more polite, dedicated and academically successful group of young women simply auditioning for a CHANCE to participate in the "Marching Falcons" Colorguard!  The colorguard is a very select group and, in the past, we have accepted as few as 50% of our auditionees!  However, we were so impressed with both the talent and the work ethic of everyone at the auditions, we have decided to accept ALL of our candidates for colorguard this spring!  Congratulations to our 2012 Colorguard (in alphabetical order):

Katie Barnhardt
Ka'Rhea Camps
Morgan Davis
Brandy Griffith
Katelyn Holloway
Kara Riddle
Megan Rinehardt
Zakiya Smyre
Cele Weakfall
