Kindergarten Newsletter KNEWS 05 2009-2010 September 21, 2009 Thank You! Back-To-School Night was great! We enjoyed having all of you in the classroom (where all the action is)! Thank you so much for being with us. It is always wonderful to begin the school year with such a turn-out. It is certainly reflective in your children and their very positive beginning to our school year.
Room Parent Meeting Thanks to the moms who signed up to be Room Parents: Beth Ann Bunting, Tara Hannings, Lori Hermann, and Michelle Shuron. Our first organizational meeting was on Friday, September 18. If you signed up to be a “Support Parent,” there will be a meeting at Sara Maher’s house on Friday, September 25 at 9:00. Sara will contact you.
SGS Liturgies Between now and the end of January, the children in kindergarten will be learning about the Mass, position for prayer in Church, and some of the responses for Mass. Beginning February, the kindergarten class will join the rest of the student body when liturgies are scheduled.
Lunch Parents Thanks to the parents who volunteered to Come for Lunch duty. We usually need two parents for each day so if you haven’t had a chance to volunteer and you would like to, please e-mail JoAnna Kratz at djkratz@comcast.net. An updated schedule is posted on the SGS website under Committees then scroll down to Lunch Duty. Please know that when you come for lunch duty and it is time for play, the children will be playing in two different areas. It is possible that you may be assigned to supervise in an area different from where your child is. In an effort to keeps the classes sharing time together, depending on the number of volunteers, we may not be able to accommodate you when it comes to play time.
Volunteer Opportunity Acme Markets has a program that helps schools to earn money through participation in their “Cash for Receipts” program. If you are an Acme shopper, you can hand in your Acme receipt and SGS gets a percentage of the total spent by our participants. At this time, SGS needs a volunteer to help count Acme Receipts so we can receive the monies from the program. If you are willing to help with this endeavor, please e-mail Christine Palermo at mcpalermo4@msn.com. This is a great idea for parents who would love to volunteer but cannot come to school to help because of work or other commitments. It is greatly appreciated.
Sign-Ups Thanks to all who generously signed up for the many activities and snacks that will make up our school year. If you were unable to sign up for a Craft, and would still like to do so, we have two openings: November – a craft for our families and March – an outreach craft for the retired Sisters of St. Joseph at the Villa. If you are interested, please let us know. Thank you!
Snack Sign-Up Sheet some parents did not have an opportunity to volunteer, we needed to rearrange the list a bit so we could include everyone. Newsletter. Please print the list for easy referral. Diane will send home a reminder in the Communication Envelope on the Wednesday before your Friday Snack day
Math Last week the children did some experiments with new math manipulatives: pattern blocks and teddy bear counters. We also learned about graphing and the difference between a line graph and a pictograph.
Religion Last week the children learned about how Jesus shows his love for us through others. We talked about “welcoming” and how sometimes Jesus asks us to show his love for his people when we “welcome others.”
Language Arts We learned the parts of a book: front cover, back cover, the spine, and the title page. We learned about moving left-to-right when we open a book and when we read. We learned about rhyming words and we practiced identifying groups of words which rhyme. We also talked about labeling.
Skills For Growing We learned about expressing feelings and what to do with feelings that make us un- happy. We learned about asking for help when we need it and how to ask for assistance.
Support Classes Last week the children had Music, Art, Library, and Technology Classes. This week they begin Phys. Ed. and Spanish. |
