First Period
Read your library book daily.
Your Camelot Chronicles articles are due on Wednesday.
Watch another portion of Star Wars. Continue to fill in the chart of Medieval romance elements as you watch. You will use these notes in a comparison project.
Take notes from my lecture and a video on Geoffrey Chaucer and some background on The Canterbury Tales. Choose one of the pilgrims. You will practice reading aloud the portion in the Prologue that describes your pilgrim. You will read aloud for a grade on Wednesday or Friday. On Thursday you will go to HGTC for the Work Ready test.
Second Period
- Read your library book daily.
- On Monday I'll give you time to work on your romance you started writing last week. The story is due on Wednesday.
- Use charts from the movie to participate in a Socratic seminar.

Freshman English: November 16-20, 2009
Fourth and Fifth Periods
- Read your library book daily (SSR).
- Work in small groups to finish the Tom Sawyer review puzzles.
- Turn in your writing rubric if you have not already done so. Review revision (not the same as copying, correcting, or editing). Revise and publish in polished form your writing piece you chose last week. The final paper is due on Tuesday after the holidays; however, you may have it ready to turn in on Friday.
- You will have until Thursday to complete your revised written piece along with the prewriting and rough draft(s). On Thursday you will meet in your small groups to read aloud your papers for comments and suggestions from group members. Editing may also take place. You will have the class period to type your paper on Friday and may turn it in then if it's ready. The paper should be ready to be turned in for a major grade on Tuesday, Dec. 1, but you will not have any more class time to work on it.
- On Monday we will finish working through the Tom Sawyer vocabulary lists and complete the review sheets. You will have a test over the words on Thursday.
- On Tuesday and Wednesday, we will spend some time reviewing vocabulary and some time writing the revision.
- FOR HOMEWORK: work on your revision and study your vocabulary.
Sixth and Seventh Periods
- Read your library book daily (SSR).
- FOR HOMEWORK, you should take on the persona of one of the characters (besides Huck) who care about Huck Finn. Write a letter to Huck persuading him to continue to live with the Widow Douglas and become civilized. You may not use Tom's argument (that he wouldn't let Huck in his gang if he didn't become civilized) as one of yours. You should turn in your prewriting and draft by Friday. Refer to your handout ("Writing Assignment #2) that will guide you through the writing process.
- We will finish going through the Tom Sawyer vocabulary lists on Monday. You should complete the review sheets.
- You will have some review time in class each day. The vocabulary test will be on Thursday.
- You should also complete and turn in the review packet on the novel.
