RobWorld--

A Universe of Sound

"You are about to enter a dimension of sound, a vast area which attempts to reach the summit of man's mind and breach the limits of imagination...welcome to...THE MUSIC ZONE"

I am Dr. W. Dwayne Robertson , and welcome to Dr. Rob's World of Music at Granite Quarry Elementary School.  I am the music educator here (Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays), and I serve Millbridge Elementary School on Thursdays and Fridays. Mrs. Tiffany Garcia will serve as the music educator at Granite Quarry for students having music on Fridays. For those who have a child (or children) in my music program, I hereby declare that we have engaged upon a rigorous journey this year of music exploration and evolution.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns, questions, or feedback about our music program at (704) 279-2154 Ext. 2020.

February, 2010

Well, we are in some interesting times weather-wise, but teaching and learning still march forward! We are in that time of year when projects are in full bloom. Honors chorus is starting to bloom with fifth graders across the school system. My fellow music teachers and I are in the process of working with students at both Granite Quarry and Millbridge to prepare them for two honors chorus concerts that will be occurring in March and May. Also, fifth graders across the school system are in the process of learning a song on their recorders that they will be invited to share when they go see the symphony performance in April.

Students in other grade levels are continuing to enjoy a variety of activities which are stretching both their musical skills and their imaginations. For example, all children are doing a one-class drumming clinic in which the children perform a variety of exciting rhythms on 5-gallon plastic buckets similar to the group STOMP. Each grade level, of course, performs grade level-appropriate rhythms, with the message of "recycling" worked into the session as a bonus. Also, students are beginning work on age-appropriate patriotic music, several of the grade levels being screened for a possible concert performance in a spring PTA.

Well, February may be a cold month of the year, but we certainly have some hot things happening in the arts! Have a good month!  Dr. Rob...
