![]() Welcome to Barbara Mitchell's Webpage: I am Resource Teacher for grades 3, 4, 5. I serve students in Language Arts and Math. If you have questions, concerns, etc. please feel free to call me. I am usually free to speak with you on the phone between 11:00 and 12:30. As the year progresses I will be in touch with you to come to school for IEP meetings. At that time we will look at the past year's goals and determine what changes and new additions need to be made to your child's IEP. This is my daily schedule: 8:40-9:40- Language! - 4th grade 9:40-10:10 - Language! - 4-5th grades 10:10-11:00 Math - 3-4th grades 11:00-12:30 Lunch, Meetings, Paperwork 12:30-1:30 Language! 3rd grade 1:30-2:20 Math - 4th grade 2:20-3:00 Language! 4th grade First Group - In Language! we are working on three letter clusters: spl, spr, etc. Also, learning the spelling rule - 1-1-1 Doubling rule. During the month of December we have been reading a winter poem to build fluency. We are going to read these poems to a Kindergarten Class on Friday. Second Group - In Language! we are learning the sound and hand signal for the vowel sound "e". We are reading, writing, spelling words using vowels: a, e, i, o. We are reading passages to increase reading fluency. Also, this month we are writing verses from "The Night Before Christmas" to practice our cursive writing, discuss some unusual vocabulary and even punctuation. Third Group - Math - we are working hard on multiplication facts. We have made a multiplication chart, learned skip counting to aid in remembering facts, and played Math War (multiplication). Fourth Group - Language! - these students are also going to perform and read winter poems to Kindergartners. We are working on cursive writing and learning the sound and hand signal for the vowel "e". The students are sorting words by their vowel sounds. Fifth Group - Math - this group is working on double digit multiplication and also on simple division. Sixth Group - Language! this group is working on spelling rule which we so fondly call the FLOSS rule: double the f, l, s, z at the end of a one syllable word after a short vowel sound.
