Is counseling confidential?
Yes. It is important for children to understand that our conversations are private. This allows us to build a trusting relationship where they feel comfortable discussing their issues.
Children understand that the specifics of our conversation are private, unless they or someone they know is getting hurt. At this time, they realize that I would need to tell another adult to ensure their safety.
I do encourage all children to tell their parents about any issues we discuss. Although, my counseling sessions are private, I strongly believe in working with parents to gain helpful information and insights.
No information regarding counseling is kept in the student's academic records.
