Welcome to Mrs. Huntley's English/language arts page.

Currently, each child should be reading each night and completing a reading log that will be due each Friday. The reading material can be a novel, magazine or newspaper as long as your child is reading each night.

Your child will also be completing Daily Oral Language sentences, or DOLs each day as a warm up. After we have completed ten sentences, we will have a quiz on the sentences. As a way to study, your child is asked to rewrite the sentences the night before the quiz. I will award five extra credit points for each child that does this assignment.

We are still working on  literature circles. Your child has been  be given a novel that he or she will be expected to bring home and read in nightly. This novel can be used for their reading logs each week. All students should be working on contracts 4 and 5. Following the novel, we will begin a research paper that is based on a topic from your child's novel. Please look for information in the coming weeks.

ALl students will need his or her file folder and 4x6 note cards very soon. Please make sure the file is large enough for the 4x6 cards.
1st: Outsiders
2nd: Freak the Mighty
3rd: Fever
4th: Either The Giver or Surviving the Applewhites

A reminder that reading logs are due each Friday with a summary of six to eight sentences for each entry. Many students are not getting these in and receiving zeroes for them. PLease encourage your child to complete these weekly.

Please help make sure that your child knows and understands the 12 Power Words listed below.
