News for the Month of December:During the month of December, our class has been busy learningabout Christmas traditions. We constructed beautiful gingerbread houses. To learn about families, we brought in pictures of our families and displayedthem in the hallway. On Wednesday, December 12, our letters to Santa werefeatured in the Salisbury Post. We are counting down the days until Christmas onthe calendar, learning about the poinsettia plant, and reading Christmas stories and poems.
During this very important year of first grade, your child will experience many exciting learning experiences. We will learn to read and explore books. We will write our own sentences and stories using phonetic skills and our classroom word wall. Through discovery, critical thinking, and reasoning skills we will solve math and science problems. Art will be a major part of our curriculum, as we incorporate our creativity into each subject.
My Philosophy of Teaching Children deserve respect. A child's self esteem should be nurtured tenderly. My job is to work with a child until he/she learns. Your child should enjoy the learning process and I want to help them develop their own motivation for learning. I will do my best to encourage your child to be a successful learner. Modeling is the most powerful way to affect a child's learning. Please model the love of learning at home by reading to and in front of your child. - Mrs. Laniece Sharpe "The highest result of education is tolerance." -Helen Keller
