  Welcome
  to
 Hills' Happenings!

              Third Grade

Our Fantastic Voyage has been "full speed ahead!"  In fact, on October 29, one quarter of  our 2009-2010 journey will be complete.   As Overton Explorers, we desire to  be respectful, responsible, and reflective students in order to continue on a successful journey.

Parents:  Conferences are going to be scheduled.  This Monday, October 26, a letter will be in your child's agenda.  Please indicate three choices of times that best fit your schedules. I will do my best to accommodate you.

Daily Schedule:

7:15-7:50        Morning Work
7:50-9:20        Math
9:20-9:30        Journal Writing/Energizers
9:30-11:00      Reading/Language Arts
11:00-11:25    Writing/Waterford
11:25-12:10    Enhancements
Monday -- Art
    Tuesday -- Music
       Wednesday -- P.E.
                            Thursday -- Guidance  (A Week)
                12:10-12:15     Restroom
            12:15-12:40     LUNCH
12:40-1:10       Structured Recess
1:15-1:20         Water
1:20-2:05         Social Studies/Science

As you know, a list of Spelling words for the first 5 themes was included in the information packet.   Hopefully, this will be helpful when weekly tests begin.  In addition, I have begun testing high frequency words to see individual  needs.

Spelling -- Week of October 26-29
(These are 226-250 on High Frequency words.)

Science:  Students should be observing moon phases on a nightly basis.  It's FUN!  We've explored light and how it behaves.  Have them share a sentence that enables them to name the planets in order from the sun.  They're doing well.

Math:  We're continuing with Subtraction, testing on Topic 3 and moving to Topic 4.
Practicing basic facts for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division at home is a BIG PLUS!

NOTE:  Remember that Thursday, October 29, is an early release day.  Also....there is no school for students on Friday, October 30 since it's a Teacher workday.  Have a GREAT weekend!

Please feel free to communicate any concerns that you may have through the agenda of phone calls.  Together, we will continue to work for the success of your children.

Again, thanks for visiting our web page.    We're having a Fantastic Voyage!

Your children are the STARS!!!
