Students in all grade levels are working on a unit in basketball. Students in Kin.-1st grades focus on learning to dribble the ball with control and learning how to perform a two-handed shot on baskets that are six feet in height. Students in 2nd-5th grades work on dribbling, passing, catching, shooting, rebounding, and the basics of playing defense. The one-handed shot is introduced in 3rd grade. A wide variety of activities are incorporated to help develop skills. Ball size and basket height are adjusted as appropriate for various grade levels. Many aspects of fitness, a academics, and social skills are also built into these lessons. |
