Welcome to the News and Notes for 1A!
Here is a fun Math website I think you and your children will enjoy.  It contains games for all of our math skills. www.ixl.com/Math

A reminder from the Diocese regarding any snacks sent in to school:  Please remember to send in healthy snacks for any birthday, daily snack or classroom treat. These may include yogurt, fruit, granola bars, crackers and cheese. They may not include cupcakes, cookies or chips.

The Mission Statement for Holy Trinity Catholic School:
Holy Trinity Catholic School accepts that each child is a unique creation of God with spiritual, intellectual and social needs.  As members of the faith community we instill in our students the teachings of the Gospel.  We promote a partnership among parents, faculty, staff and the community rooted in the Catholic Faith.  Our mission is to empower our students with active and creative minds, a sense of understanding and compassion for others, and the courage to act on their beliefs.

THE FOLLOWING ARE REMINDERS FOR EVERY DAY:

* Remember to check your child's Homework Folder every night. Take out any papers on the stay home side and read over them.

As you go over the papers remember to look at the bottom for suggestions and activities that you can do at home to personalize and enrich the skills.

There will be homework each night in a variety of forms such as:

1. A review of daily class work. It is very beneficial if you set up a certain time each day so that it becomes a pleasant routine, after school is an ideal time. This also provides you with a daily check on how your child is doing in school.

2. Our Math Simple Solutions workbook will have a lesson circled on top to be completed that night.

3. Practice math addition and subtraction facts by using flash cards.

4. A math, reading, printing, etc. worksheet to complete that went with the daily lessons. These should be returned to school the next day.

5. Review daily the prayers found in the First Grade handbook. (Your and Thy can be interchanged in the prayers)

6. Review of spelling and vocabulary words each night. Have your child break apart the word and sound it out then blend and hold those sounds back into the word. Using their finger helps to keep them on track of where they are in decoding and blending of the word.

Also, if you hear your child mispronounce a word please model and correct the sound or word for them. I know that they can speak and answer very fast but we need to slow them down a bit and make sure that they are pronouncing the beginning, middle and ending parts of their words.

Thank You for your continued cooperation and support!
