Dear Parents,

Happy New Year! I hope you had a restful and happy Christmas and New Year break! It sure goes by quickly, but our first graders are ready for new things in our new year, 2010!

We have Winter surrounding us with the weather, temperature, how we dress, what we eat, what we do or can't do outside and all the fun things we can learn at this time of the year! We have a lot planned and will be busy learning about Winter season, animals in winter, snow, ice, icebergs, germs and keeping healthy, the Arctic and Antarctica. These topics bring fun activities and reading for us! We are continuing to read a Magic Tree House book each with experiencing adventures with Jack and Annie (which by the way the kids named our two gerbils Jack and Annie) and our two authors for this month are Jan Brett and Eve Bunting. On the 15th we will see a video about Dr. Martin Luther King and his Dream.

We're moving into fractions this month in math and place value with numbers. We'll continue with addition and subtraction with problem solving strategies.

Thanks to all of you for sending goodies for our Christmas goody bags. Our party was a lot of fun!

On Jan. 29th we will have our next Positive Behavior first grade reward time. If your child gets more than 4 yellows during this time, he/she will not be able to participate. We have some fun things planned and hope that all the kids can participate!

Keep reading every night and record books in your child's reading folder!

Thank you for your support of us and your child!
