Welcome to Mrs. Rutherford's 4th Grade Web Page
2009-2010

1st Quarter Report Card conferences are being held to cover the report card and any other paperwork for each student.  If you have not made an appointment for this conference, please contact me as soon as possible.

Week of 11/9/09

Reading - The Stranger by Chris Van Allsburg.  Students will read the story of a mysterious stranger.  Students will use strategies to note details and find key vocabulary to help them understand the story.  Vocabulary and spelling words for this story are in their reading practice books.

LA - Students will work on compound words and synonyms.

Math - Ms. Fields will continue teaching information regarding unknown values.  Students will use a variety of resources to explore input/output charts, and order of operations.  This week will be used to review some skills that were covered in Topic 7.  We were a little concerned that they may not have truly understood everything in the chapter.  Spending a few extra days, using additional resources, and informal assessments will allow us to verify that students truly understand the material.

Social Studies - Students will study about the mountain region of North Carolina.  We will use pages 7, 33, 46-47, 67-72 in the text book.  Additional resources will be used to discover the importance of influences that location has on the people of NC.  We will also discover the importance of regional diversity.  Students will learn about industry, major cities/population, and tourism in the mountain region.
