Lesson Plans    McCartha/Reading/All Periods  Week of Jan. 5 - Happy New Year!

Standards we’ll focus on this week include: 6.1.7 Create responses to literary texts through a variety of methods such as written works.. and 6.4.5 Spell new words using Greek and Latin roots and affixes; also, continuing 6.1.2 Differentiate…points of view and 6.1.5 Understand the effect of an author’s craft … on the meaning of literary texts;

: 6.1.11 Read independently for extended periods of time for pleasure.
6.4.5 Spell new words using Greek and Latin roots and affixes.

Daily Homework:  100 Book Challenge:  Independent reading for 30 minutes; parents sign reading log.  Parents: Please look for the skill cards in the student 100BC folders this week and use those to help check for understanding and check vocabulary. Encourage students to respond to the questions on the skill cards.

Daily (most days): Wordplay/Vocabulary -  Students will practice identifying roots, prefixes and suffixes and their meanings, and using this information to decode, spell and understand words.
Daily (most days):  Students will read independently and record daily for 100 Book Challenge.

Monday –
Standard 6.1.7 Create responses to literary texts through a variety of methods such as written works…
Literary objective:  Students will contruct strong written responses to short answer or essay questions.

Word Study: Students will generate, spell and use words with the roots “cent” and “enni”; also students will review the prefixes uni, bi, tri, and quad/quar.
