Welcome to Grade 5A May 10, 2012 Reminders: Please send in $1 for the donation to the gift for our D.A.R.E. officer. Social Studies Workbook, p. 62 Also, textbook, p. 265 - Draw map activity on loose leaf paper. May 9, 2012 Tomorrow is the PLANT SALE. If your child is purchasing plants, please put money in an envelope with his/her name on it. Items will be sent home with the child at the end of the day. Next Wed., May 16, is the Grade 5 D.A.R.E. Graduation ceremony, at 1 PM in our auditorium. You should have received an invitation to attend this ceremony (it was given to your child to bring home on Tuesday.) Additionally, we are collecting $1 per child to put towards a small gift for Detective Sgt. Vitale, in thanks for his dedication in volunteering to teach the program. Please send in the $1 by Friday. Friday, April 27, 2012 Students received Weekly Sheet today. Please sign & return either Tuesday (Yes, I will accept on the day of the Class Trip) or Wednesday. Students received a note today, with several last minute reminders about our Tuesday Class Trip. Please check backpacks! Still have only received about half of the permission slips for both the Safety Walk to Nomehegan Park and the scoleosis screening. The walk is on May 2 ... students without permission slips will not be allowed to attend. Permission is needed both to include OR exclude your child from scoleosis screening by our nurse. I will also accept these on the day of our Class Trip. Reading Students will next see Mrs. Fasolino in class on Wed. 5/2. By then, they should have read through Chapter 10 in "Tuck Everlasting." Science Project is due on May 3. For those opting to take the test instead, test will most likely be on May 4. Thursday, April 26, 2012 Reminders: Yesterday students were sent home with notification of upcoming scoleosis testing our nurse will be doing. Please complete the permission slip with regard to this test. Today students have brought home May calendars & menus ... and a permission slip for a school-wide walking trip to Nomehegan Park on May 2. Please return that ASAP, as well, as no child will be allowed to participate without a signed permission slip. Our Class Trip to Philadelphia will be on May 1 (Tuesday.) There is NO SCHOOL on Monday April 30, due to a teacher in-service. Our bus will be leaving at 7:30 AM on Tuesday ... PLEASE BE ON TIME!!! Here is some important info: If you could phone chain, and inform all of your friends in 5A and 5B, that would be very helpful. As you may or may not have heard, we will have our Halloween costume parade INDOORS, in the auditorium of SMS, on Tuesday, Nov. 1. We WILL still be going to Mass for All Saint's Day, so here's what I think we should do: We have been given permission by Fr. Tim to wear costumes, but I think we should tone down make-up, etc. for Mass. We'll leave hats/masks, etc. in the classroom, and put them back on AFTER Mass, and before the parade in the auditorium. It seems only fitting and respectful, as we will not only be at the front of the auditorium but ON the altar singing, that the fancy costume pieces be left off during Mass. Trust me, I'm sorry the weather didn't cooperate for today's celebration more than anyone --- another day before my Top Secret costume can be revealed!! --- but I feel it more important that we keep the holy day of obligation as sacred as possible.
