Writing Workshop
Teachers continue to move along in our Writing Series called Writing Workshop. Students in grades K-5 are writing about small moments that have happened to them. Students are learning how to work with a partner and revise their writing. In Kindergarten they are learning about "sparkle" words and how to use them in their stories. In Fifth grade they are learning about the tools they need as a writer. Be sure and ask your child about the "small moments " they are writing about. I have heard stories about the Beach, going to the fair, and playing video games with friends. The students are havingfun sharing their stories during "Author's Share time."

Walden Media
This month Teachers and Assistants have been providing effective instructional practices in the classroom. They have also worked on various ways to provide assignments/projects that are considered quality student work. We are working hard to provide students with new ideas and ways of producing student work that the student is responsible for and has ownership in. One way is providing choices for the end results of a lesson. each student learns in a different way and letting them choose an activity helps teach responsibility, management skills, and provides ownership for their work.
Author Visit: Steven Layne
December 3, 2008
Third and Fourth Graders from Bostian will travel to Landis Elementary for a mini-field trip to hear Dr. Steven Layne. He is our visiting author for RSS. He has written eight picture books. I was able to read two of his stories to our students to familiarize them with his literature. They loved it! We are looking forward to his visit and hearing more of his stories.
Thank you for all your support at home too! Please call or e-mail if you have any questions for us. Have a GREAT week!!!
