My name is Angela Mullinax and I will be your Curriculum Coach here at Bostian for the 08-09 year. I have been teaching for 17 years and I am excited to be here at Bostian. I look forward to working with teachers, teacher assistants and students. Together we can make a difference!!!!!

Memorial Day
This month Teachers and Assistants will begin the third math module which will cover the strand of Algebra. In this strand we will learn four main concepts in the Algebra strand and activities to enhance algebraic thinking and reasoning involving the way students use the content of Algebra-patterns, representations, and functions.
In our weekly meetings this month Teachers will learn the difference between growing patterns and continuing patterns. They will work with hands-on activities to take back to their students to model.
Writer's Workshop
Teachers continue to use Writer's Workshop by Lucy Calkins.
In grades K-2 students are working on Unit 6: NonFiction Writing. In this unit students will learn and write about nonfiction. The umbrella of nonfiction writing is large: procedural or how-to writing, informational writing including reports and feature articles, essays and editorials are taught in this unit.
Students will publish several how-to texts and one large, multi-faceted All About book. Our K-2 are loving writing and progressing well as we near the end of school.
In grades 3-4 students are working on Unit 4: Writing Fiction: Big Dreams. Tall Ambitions
In this unit students will use their writer's notebook to collect story ideas. Students will learn to take the tiny details and big issues of their lives and speculate on how that could become stories.
Teacher Assistant
Staff Development
Teacher Assistants will meet on May 13 for Staff Development. We will review Marzano's Higher Order Thinking Skills. Assistants will make Marzano Bucks for their Teachers to use in class. This will help Teachers and Assistants as they incorporate HOTS into their lessons.
They will also make several math games from our RSS website to use in class. The games incorporate NCSCOS and math module standards we are incorporating in classes.
