Your Poetry Project booklet is due next Thursday, 2/16.
If you are absent both 2/16 and 2/17 - email your project so that is not late.
If you are leaving before this for vacation,
Pass your booklet in before you leave.

- MCAS Monday is an excerpt form a play, "Treasure Island" based on the novel
See models of strong open-response answers written by your classmates for last week's "Robin Hood" selection. Note the restatement of the question in the opening using key words from the given question. Note text details. You score the answers!

- Complete the "Treasure Island" MCAS pages - multiple choice and open- response.

Tuesday 2/7 | Classwork
- Free verse poetry Read free verse poems by Ralph Fletcher and Rae Bruce. Read examples of students' free verse poems and note the use of language, sound devices, and sensory imagery. Listen to a poem by Mrs. Donahue. Plan your own poem about a person using the brainstorming page you began in class.
Homework
- Begin the first ten lines (or more) of your free verse poem!

Wednesday 2/8 | Mrs. Donahue's Help Session I have reserved the computer lab computers for you to work on your poetry project. I will be available to help you edit your poems. Classwork
- Choose one of the two poems presented today. Work alone or with a partner to answer questions on a separate paper about the form, sound, speaker, and figurative language you find in this poem. Pass in this paper before class ends.
- As you complete this assignment, write, improve,and revise your free verse poem.
I will call you up to check your drafts and to conference. Homework
- Complete the rough draft of your free verse poem. If you are finished, Revise by working to include, vivid vocabulary, sensory imagery and sound devices. Have you worked on the structure of your poem? (Writing in couplets, triplets or quatrains)

- Choose one of the two poems presented in class. Work with a partner to answer questions about the form, sound, speaker, and figurative language that you find in this poem. Pass in the pages before class ends.

Type a final copy of your free verse poem following to the sample page handout for the Poetry Project. Print a copy or email it to me.

Friday 2/10 | Classwork
- A final free verse poem. A poem about one of three paintings.
Homework - You may need to continue to type the six poem drafts we have done. Next week we will be in the computer lab two times for you to edit, create a cover and to type your Process of the Process - see your assignment handout.
