FIRST & SECOND GRADE PARENTS:
First and second grade students are taking their first leveled book home today. It is very important that they read these books at home and return it the next day so they can check out a new book.  Students will take books home everyday except for the last day of the school week.  (example: A book will go home Monday-Wednesday this week since Thursday is the last day of school for students this week.  Next week they will take books home Monday-Thursday since Friday is the last day of the week)  I never send books home over the weekend because too many get lost on weekends.  Students will need to bring the yellow reading folder to school everyday, even if they didn't get a chance to read the book.

Thank you for all of your help!

Raz-kids.com

I will be sending home a note in your child's reading folder tomorrow about an amazing website that they will have access to.  Go to www.raz-kids.com and click on login.  If your child comes to me for reading they will enter username colemanMA and then click on Go.  Then they will click on their name and begin reading books on their level, taking quizzes on those books and work on moving their reading level up.  It is a lot of fun and good reading and comprehension practice.

FLASHCARD INFORMATION:

I have been reading in a book that repeated reading of high-frequency words can have benefits, but that it may cause students to read word-by-word in their book reading. Therefore, the book recommends reading phrases of high frequency words to help build fluency. I have put Fry's first 100 words on my flashcards. Have your child practice reading these phrases. They contain words that your child should master by the end of first grade. The phrases should be read like a phrase and not word by word. Remember that the more they practice, the better they become!
