Class Plans - January 20-23, 2009 Monday (MLK Holiday) Tuesday Words of the week (students will spell only): magnanimous, inaugural, unanimous, advise, devise, picturesque, Students will: - view presidential inaugural address and make note of persuasive tools used during speak and other commentaries. (Those who do not wish to view the inauguration may read other materials of choice) - review verb tenses present, past, future, pres. perf., past perf. future perf, progressive, etc ; complete pages 110 (#1-10) and 111 (#1-10) and submit at the end of class. Homework: Do a syllabic breakdown of spelling words (use dictionary!) and study them. Wednesday - 10-minute Daily Oral Language (DOL) Practice: Verb Tenses - Review Persuasive techniques used by writers and speakers: Fact & Opinion, Repetition, Choice Words (forceful) - Continue to work on Persuasive Speech Prompt: Convincing mom and or dad to let me have a (pet) - Homework: Study spelling words. Thursday - Focus Activity: Identifying Antonym-Analogies (Activity Sheet) Ponder this: How is it that persuasive writing uses opposites? - Students will listen to audio I Have A Dream. - In groups, students will read persuasive speech, I Have A Dream.
