The 2009 Florida Council of the Blind Scholarship Program consists of awards totaling $6,250.00, which are offered to outstanding students who are enrolled in academic education or professional training beyond the high school level. FSU Service Scholars Program The purpose of the Service Scholar Program is both to recognize incoming students with an outstanding record of service and leadership and to prepare students to become active citizens and leaders on campus and in their communities after graduation. Selection to the program, usually limited to 12 freshmen each year, is highly competitive. Service Scholars are awarded a four-year renewable scholarship in the amount of $2,400 annually. As a member of the program Service Scholars follow their own path of individual community service, participate in group projects with fellow Scholars, attend regular social and educational sessions, and learn leadership and advocacy skills. Staff of the Center for Leadership and Civic Education oversee and advise the program; however, Service Scholars themselves, through an elected board, plan and manage the activities and service projects as well as maintain the standards for participating in the program.
