Students are reading so well!  If you read with your child and record the library book in their agenda I will send them back to the library to get a different book.  This can be done daily or every other day.  What ever feels comfortable for you.  I hope this will encourage them to get books in the library that they can read and if not then the parent can still help them by paying close attention to putting their (the student's) finger on each word as it is read.

Parents - Remember to keep a set of extra clothes in a ziplock bag with your child's name on it for accidents that might happen this year. Change them out according to the season.
Reading - To start the year off we learn all of our primary color words.  Your child should now be able to recognize these words as well as use them in their writing.  We have went over the letters A,E,I,O,U,S,M,N,R,T,C,H,B,P,V and L.  We have learned these letters sounds and animals that begin with these letters.  Next we will learn the letter Kk.

Writing - We are now expecting more out of each students' writing.  All color words should be spelled correctly as well as all of our popcorn words that are on our word wall.   Any word that is in the room should be spelled correctly.  If they want to use a word that they can't spell, then it should start with the right letter and end with the right letter.  Example dog== dg  this would be acceptable.
I only have 4 students who are doing the pearsonsuccessnet.com on the computer.  This is a really great way to practice math at home in your spare time.  If you are unsure how to use it please feel free to ask me, I will try my best to help.
Math -
We are now learning geometrical shapes.  Each child should be able to recognize the following shapes.  (rectangle, square, circle and triangle) They should also be able to explain why a square is a rectangle but a rectangle is not a square. We have also learned about lines of symmetry and what one half should look like. Please continue to help your child count as high as they can.

Science - We will be learning about lizards.

Social Studies - We will be learning about bears and their habitats.

Computer - Our next impact unit will be about different types of bears.

We are in need of classroom candy for our candy box.  If you could send some that would be greatly appreciated.  If you have these items at home please feel free to send them, we will use them in lots of different ways.

coffee cans with lids
cool whip bowls with or without lids
egg cartons
