Hi!
8th graders finish watching "Charly," the film version of "Flowers for Algernon." On Wednesday and for the rest of the week, we'll be reading in class "The Hitchhiker" a radio play by Lucille Fletcher. It's a wonderfully scary story. As you read the story, it's important to be thinking about who the hitchhiker is or what he symbolizes. Those who aspire toward literary excellence may want to look up an old legend, "Appointment in Samarra." There are parallels.
7th graders will bid adieu to O.Henry Wednesday with a test on "A Retrieved Reformation." On Thursday, we'll begin reading a "Twilight Zone" classic--"The Monsters are Due on Maple Street." Twist my arm and I may show you an episode or two from my favorite show from back in the day.
6th graders will be reading "The Phantom Tollbooth." Next Monday, we'll see the play on stage at SUNY Purchase.
What's your outside reading this month? I'm reading THE LIFE AND TIMES OF THE THUNDERBOLT KID by Bill Bryson. It's about growing up in the mid-20th century, and it's very funny. There's my November book report. I'm looking forward to reading yours on November 30.
Read on,
Mrs. Reisman
