Reaching Beyond the Stars!

Please check your child's homework every night to ensure that their spelling words are written neatly and all of his/her homework is complete. The homework is listed on the newsletter I send home every week and it is written in the children's planners. Please check your child's planner daily in the event I have changed the homework assignments for the day. Phonograms The children will begin new phonogram tests this week. These tests mirror those they will encounter on the Stanford 10. They are already somewhat familiar with a similar format used on their weekly reading tests. The children know all of the phonograms. Please have them continue to practice the flash cards weekly.
Please continue to initial next to your child's color and write the total number of minutes your child read each day along with the book he/she read on the monthly calendar. Parents are to sign students' planners daily. It is the students' responsibility to bring the planner and a pen to their parents to sign and to return the planner to their book bags once they have been signed. It is important for parents to know what homework their children have each day and to discuss daily behaviors as indicated by the colored circle on the right side of the page. I check the planners every morning. Please be sure to sign or initial it every day. Thank you for your support!!
We are collecting Box Tops for Education to pay for a field trip later this year. Please send your Box Tops into class. I sent home a sheet this week detailing the brands that carry Box Tops on them. This quarter the students will read at least one chapter book and one short book each week for a total of at least 1.5 points. They need to earn at least 13 points by the end of the quarter. Encourage your child to tell you about what he/she is reading to help them remember the plot as they read through the week. They need to read aloud at least 20 minutes each day to improve their fluency rate and accuracy.
The Book It! information has arrived!!! Students must read 320 minutes each month to receive a gift certificate for a free pizza. Pizza Hut now accepts the certificates at their pick-up locations also so you do not have to dine-in if you do not wish to do so. Please remember to write the number of minutes and the book your child read each day on their worksheets/planners so that I can add them up for their free pizzas.
Absences - When your child is absent, please make sure he/she makes up all of the work missed. It is amazing just how much we cover in one day and how quickly a child can get behind when they miss a day of school. Please refrain from taking your child out of school on Fridays. Friday is our test day. Students cannot make up spelling tests and they are always given on the last day of the week.
Please practice phonograms at home daily with the phonogram cards I sent home the first day of school. |
