W8th grade Theology  Morality /  Establishing culpability by moral analysis Turesday, October 13, 2009

Beginning Tuesday, October 27, and on each of the Tuesdays following through and including Tuesday, November 24, you are to bring in an article from a newspaper which addresses a moral issue. The article must have been published within the last  four days preceding the Tuesday date.

Do NOT cut out the article. You must bring in the original article, intact within the entire page of the paper. This will  identify the date and which newspaper it is taken from. No photo copies, no articles downloaded from the net. This avoids the temptation to present as your own a copy of an article which another person has taken the time to get.

If the article is continued onto another page, be sure to include the continuation.

With the article, you are to turn in a 100 to 125  word moral analysis of the article which:

  • thoroughly identifies the object, intention and circumstances.
  • you are to assign a culpability level using a 1 to 10 scale, 10 being the highest level of responsibility of wrongness
  • explain your reason for the level you assigned

Use the information on page 32 of the text book.

The summary may be typed or hand written neatly and clearly. Unreadable papers will be given a zero.

This is a homework assignment, counts towards class participation and will be recorded as a quiz grade. Each day the article is late will result in ten points taken off.

Rubric :

___ / 15      full article included with analysis

___ / 30     clearly & thoroughly identifies object, intention & circumstances

___ / 15    thoughtful explanation for culpability level assigned

___/ 15     neatly typed or hand written

___/ 10     physical appearance of paper is clean and tidy

___ / 15   oral presentation : clear speech, loud enough, demeanor, posture
