Welcome to Mrs. Shupe's Website

The year has gotten off to a terrific start.  I'm new to eighth grade this year and was a little apprehensive at the beginning of school.  Thanks to the students it has been the smoothest first days of school ever.  Eight graders are very mature and responsible (for the most part).

In language arts we are beginning with a short story unit.  We have been reviewing the plot diagram and several short story elements.  In writing we have started a cause and effect essay.  There will be an on-demand writing task the middle of October.  This is a county writing assessment that will be scored and placed in their permanent writing folder.  We are also continuing the stems vocabulary program.  All students should have a list of stems to be studied nightly.  We will have a stems test every Friday.

In social studies we have started studying the Revolutionary War and its effects on North Carolina.
