PRECISION MACHINING 1 and 2 Course Syllabus 2008 - 2009 The Precision Machining series of courses are designed to provide you with training which will enable you to begin your working career in the following ways: Students completing the second year will take a national level certification test given through the National Institute of Metalworking Skills. Employment as an entry level machinist, possibly with an employer that provides apprenticeship training towards Journeyman certification. A Dual Enrollment course option is available through New River Community College. Rules: 1. Obey all school rules. 2. Operate machines only after passing safety tests with a score of 100% and receiving instruction on proper use. 3. Report ANY injury, damaged equipment, or unsafe condition immediately. 4. Never distract anyone while they are operating a machine - treat everyone with respect. 5. All projects must be approved by the instructor before beginning them. Grading Policy: 1.40% Daily Grade (what does your boss think?) Obey all school rules, work safely, respect and work with others effectively, leave work areas clean and in order, use time efficiently. 2. 30% Written Work (how is your technical knowledge?) All assignments are on a syllabus which is issued each 6 weeks and may be turned in on or before the due date, not later, keep all handouts and graded written work to help you prepare for exams, machining and blueprint books are not issued but may be checked out any time, usually there is an answer key so that you may check and correct your work as soon as you finish, keep pencil and paper in your shop locker. 3. 30% projects (can you do what youre learning about?) Completed projects are checked for dimensional accuracy, partially completed projects are checked for progress if more than 1 week since being assigned, you have competency sheets to record your progress.
