What We Are Learning The music skills that we are learning are listed under each nine weeks. It is always fun to talk about these with your child, so that you can see his/her progress on their music skills throughout the year.
What is "music aptitude"? Music aptitude is a person's ability to learn music. A child's musical aptitude can be increased until about the age of 9 at which point it becomes stabalized. Therefore, it is very important for young children to be exposed to music as often as possible and to have the best musical training available. The Primary Measures of Music Audiation is a music aptitude test that will be administered to Kindergarten students in May and to First Grade students in December. Both a tonal and a rhythm test is given. The tests identify a child's current music aptitude. Instruction can then be given that is appropriate for the child's musical needs and that will strengthen and enhance his musical abilities.
