Monday

Objective: Students will complete final drafts of persuasive essays.

  • Bell Work - (D.O.L.) Correct the errors in punctuation (SmartBoard activity)

  • Review word meaning through denotation and connotation; euphemisms. Complete chart of words, providing the connotation for each. (Glencoe Literature Textbk, p. 448). Let's discuss. . .

  • Continue persuasive essays
  • Homework: Study W.O.W.

Tuesday

Objective: Students will complete final copy of persuasive essays; review the writing process.

  • Focus Activity: Prewriting - In student journals, students will complete a timed freewriting exercise in which they view a picture and write about the first thought that occurs to them. Combine any ideas or images related to this thought in one continuous piece of writing or paragraph. (Refer to Language Wkbk., p. 307)
  • Complete persuasive essays and peer evaluations.
  • Homework: (1st and 2nd period) Check out a Grammar & Composition Textbook. Beginning in Ch. 16, pp. 324-337, take notes on the five stages of the writing process. Put these notes in the Notes section of language binder. Be sure to note the stages in order and write information on what takes place during each stage of writing. I will ask you to submit these notes at the beginning of class tomorrow. (Please be thorough in your note-taking -- you will need this information for an upcoming test) 
  • Study W.O.W.

Wednesday

Objective: Students will review the writing process

  • Bell work: find and correct errors in sentences.
  • continue skills development in grammar-composition workbook  (the writing process).
  • students may study W.O.W. if time permits.

Announcement(s): The Black History Knowledge Bowl team competitions will be held in my room, during SSR.

Homework:

  • 3rd and 4th period will check out grammar texts and gather notes on the writing process (see instructions and pg. #s from Wednesday's homework). Take workbks home and continue practice exercises. Due: Friday
  • Study W.O.W.

Thursday

Objective: Students will review the writing process

  • Bell ringer: find errors in punctuation and grammar in each sentence.

**Knowledge Bowl Contest continues today**

  • Homework: Study spelling words; finish workbook pages.

Friday (last day for Hoops for Heart donation monies)

Objective: Students will review writing process; spell W.O.W.

Announcement(s): Congrats to the Cougar Knowledge Bowl Team!! They are Will Glasscock,  Jake Long, Teiliyah Patterson, Terrell Price, Ladereka Sanders, and Slade Seetaram!  The school-wide Knowledge Bowl is February 26th. These students will represent The Cougars. Keep studying guys!

Homework: Complete any assignments that were not done this week; study notes on the writing process
