First Grade is Awesome!

    Happy Fall!

Happy Halloween!

The Halloween party is Friday!YEAH!  The children are to bring their costumes to school. They are able to wear Halloween colors for dress down, jeans are fine to wear too! The children will probably start to get dressed around 12:30. We will parade around to the other classrooms at around 1:00 and then come back to the room for a Halloween party. The children may bring in little treats for their friends. The children can either wear their costumes home or change before they leave school. Please make sure they know which they are doing. If you need to send me a note, that would be fine.

NEXT WEEK REMINDERS ARE AT THE END OF SCHOOLNTOES!!

IF ANYONE NEEDS HELP WITH GETTING ON THE DATABASE, PLEASE DON'T HESITATE TO ASK! THANKS!

Sorry about not having schoolnotes last week. The program wouldn't let me on and then when I got on, the page was blank. Technology is so wonderful sometimes!!

Handwriting  Clipart Illustration of a White Konkee Character Standing With A Pencil

Handwriting has begun.  We are beginning letters Oo, Aa and Dd. The kids have been making small a's and d's wrong. Please use the chart that I sent home to remind them of the correct way to make these letters. The handwriting practice that comes home will probably be the spelling words, vocabulary words and sentence. Remember to have the kids look and pay attention to the top, middle and bottom lines.

Math

We are learning to subtract using related facts, fact families and checking using addition. Please practice the addition and subtraction facts at home. The children can use any manipulatives that they have at their disposal. They have also learned how to play 'Math War" with a deck of cards.

          Science

The first grade subscribes to "National Geographic Young Explorer" magazine. We learn new things and do some activities each month. When we finish the activity packet, they will be coming home. Look for them. They are great!

Social Studies

We are finishing up our family unit. The children did a great job with their family portraits and stories. They are hanging in the hall as we speak. Gorgeous!!

The posters are up!! They look great!! Check them out around school!

We are working on Chapter 5 - Jesus Teaches Us About Love. The children will be making posters of the great commandment to place in the hall of the school. This commmandment is the focus of the chapter. Here it is:

"YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD, YOUR GOD, WITH ALL YOUR HEART, WITH ALL YOUR SOUL AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND. YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF." (Matthew 22:37, 39)
