For homework you will have to write a personal sentence for each of your terms. These sentences will show me that you understand your words and will be due on Wednesdays. On Fridays, you will have a vocabulary quiz (both definitions (MY CHOICE) and spelling, most weeks).

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
~ We are beginning county mandated lessons in preparation for FCAT.
~ Vocabulary- Definitions due at the end of each unit.
~ Quiz Friday (7 words...I think).
~ Keep working on your Literary Fair Project; it's due February 21st!!!!
~ Next Monday report to the Media Center!!!! We will be having vision screening.
~ To my 1st period class only-
I wanted to let you know about the Book Club's fundraiser that started today...I know you probably don't want to hear about one more fundraiser, but it's for a good cause and related to books they read this year :)
Members are collecting NEW paperback books to start a library for The Veteran's  New Life Haven Center in Ft. Lauderdale. This non-profit organization  gives homeless veterans a temporary home, counseling for Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome and help with finding employment so they can transition to a home of their own.
The first period class collecting the most books will receive a donut party and the teacher will receive a $25 Starbucks gift certificate. (You know how I LOVE Starbucks!)
~ Please be sure to call the school and report any excused absences or tardies.  DO NOT email teachers to report any absences, as we must all follow attendance procedures. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
~ You are required to check this website weekly for any announcements, and you MUST use Mozilla Firefox to see it properly. (I have no idea as to why, but that is the case.)
~PARENTS: Please think twice before emailing me about a grade or anything that you can find out by asking your child. I have more than 150 students and although I would love to answer all of the emails, it's physically impossible to do without my computer in front of me. Also, please refrain from emailing me after 10 pm, as my phone lets me know I've got something waiting to be read. Again, if your question can wait until the next day, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
~ Be sure to check Pinnacle for your grades.
~ Class Supplies: Regular notebook paper (college-ruled is preferred); pencils; at least two pens at all times, as they tend to run out or disappear-They may be blue, black, green, purple, pink, burgundy, brown or orange) No light colors please; one highlighter (any color except black-that would not be a highlighter- LOL); a folder with pockets or a light-weight, paper-thin binder with dividers (Heavy binders weigh your backpack down and are not healthy for you to carry...they will eventually hurt back.); a DEAR book (you'll find out more about this later) and last, but not least...WATER!!!!!! There are no water fountains in "Portable Land".
~ Donations of tissues, hand-sanitizer, Expo white-board markers (they last the longest), and 8 1/2 x 11 copy paper are always appreciated. :)
~ Here's to a great year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Educationally yours,
Mrs. D. Kaminer
