***I am very excited about the book order this year. As many of you know I was selected as a member of the 2008-09 Scholastic Teacher Advisory Panel. Reading Story of the week: Gluskabe and the Snow Bird

Benchmarks: 2-e-1, DOK 2; 2-a-1, DOK 2; 2-a-3, DOK 2; 1-b, DOK 2;  Writing DOK 4

Academic Vocabulary: narrator


Monday: Introduce story and have students predict what it will be about. Discuss author and illustrator and other background information. Ask students about their prior knowledge. Discuss. Read story as a group, looking for Vocabulary words: confusion, lodge, messenger, hilltop, freeze, praised.

Introduce spelling words for the week: apart, hardly, yarn, army, marbles, repair, careful, scare, somewhere, wear, starve, barber, carnival, carpet, unfair, therefore, dairy, hare, prepare, pear.
