Reading Story of the week: On the Bus with Joanna Cole

Benchmarks: 1a, DOk 1; 2a3, DOK 2;  Writing DOK 4

Academic Vocabulary: narrator


Monday: Introduce story and have students predict what it will be about. Discuss author and illustrator and other background information. Ask students about their prior knowledge. Discuss. Read story as a group, looking for Vocabulary words: research, traditional, absorb, available, abandon, original.

Introduce spelling words for the week: bedroom, anymore, everybody, classroom, anyway, backyard, railroad, forever, bathtub, homemade, outline, windowpane, evergreens, grandparents, photocopy, whirlwinds, loudspeaker, northwest, thunderstorm, bedspread.
