Mrs. Steven-Pheal's 6th Grade EXCEL Notes JANUARY 2012 Thanks for visiting! Please check regularly for important information about our EXCEL class, community events, and other valuable resources. We are looking forward to a great year! ![]() Need to contact Mrs. Steven-Pheal? Click on the link above or e-mail me at cindy.stevenpheal@lamarcountyschools.org. WE HAVE THE POWER!! WANT TO SEE? ![]() We have completed our natural disaster presentations! The students have put many hours into researching, writing, and editing, their research projects on natural disasters. Additionally, each group created a short "newscast" using facts from their natural disaster. It was exciting for the students to learn and use iMovie and our makeshift green screen to create their movies. Since this was our first time using the green screen, we learned lots of valuable lessons about lighting, color, and composition as we journeyed through the process. Students may bring in a CD to burn a copy of their movie. ![]() OUR NEXT ADVENTURE....CLAYMATION!!!! THE STUDENTS HAVE ASKED AND ASKED, SO HERE WE GO!! We are excited to begin our next unit on clay animation. Students will learn a brief history of animation, then get down to learning how to manipulate the clay to create their unique characters for their movies. This entire process will definitely require patience and persistence from our students and will help them appreciate the skill needed to create these wonderful works of art. I wrote a grant to receive funding for our claymation unit, and thanks to the Lamar County Education Foundation, we received partial funding which covers the cost of the software and Claytoons clay we will use to create our movies. PARENTS, WE NEED YOUR HELP! If you would like to loan your digital camera during the production phase of our claymation movie, that would be a great help. Additionally, we need assistance purchasing other arts and crafts items the children will need to create their characters, backgrounds, and props. I have also created a wishlist of resources from Amazon. You may link to the list here, We are truly looking forward to using our 21st century skills to equip our students for the future. ![]() HOW IS THE SIXTH GRADE SCHEDULE DIFFERENT FROM FIFTH GRADE? Students will walk from their regular education class to the trailers behind D Building to attend EXCEL. Students will still attend their elective classes on EXCEL day. ![]() Want to donate? If you would like to donate to our EXCEL classroom, we would greatly appreciate it. The following items are always needed: colored cardstock, hot glue guns, hot glue gun sticks, AA batteries, HP Cartridges #56 and #57, and gift cards to Wal-Mart and Office Depot.
