Mrs. Teresa Hudson FIRST GRADE WEEKLY NEWS AND LESSON PLANS Week of May 9-13 "Mississippi" "First Grade Memories" CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR MAY "STUDENT OF THE MONTH" GARRETT HENDERSON Dear Family, As the school year is coming to an end in a few short weeks, the students will continue to work very hard to master skills necessary for first grade. It is important that you and your child focus on memorizing sight words, reading fluently, studying spelling words and sentence dictations, learning math facts with sums to 18, and learning math skills. We have completed spelling for this school year. The students have worked so hard. There are many stars and stickers on our classroom spelling chart. Keep up the great work, students! I am so proud of you! We have complete all Saxon Phonics lessons and basal stories for this year. We will be reviewing Saxon Phonics skills, Saxon and basal sight words, and reading in decodable readers (little white books) daily. Your child will not have Saxon Phonics homework for the rest of this school year. We have completed all enVision math topics for this school year. Please continue to help your child practice addition facts with sums to 18 with instant recall. The students will be timed on these facts - 100 addition facts with sums to 18 in 5 minutes (instant recall). It will be very beneficial to your child if you purchase addition facts flash cards. It is also important to continue to recognize and count money. Some of the students have not mastered this skill and others have. Practice counting money daily. Thanks for your continued help at home!! We are collecting aluminum pop tabs, box tops for education, ink cartridges, and Sunny D UPC labels. We are now collecting Coke tops. These will be used in the "My Coke Rewards for Schools" program in 2011. These can be found on Coke bottle tops and also inside the cardboard boxes that Coke cans come in. This applies to Coke and all Coke products. Thanks for helping us collect these items for SES. I will contact you when these items need to be turned in to Sumrall Elementary School. For the safety of your child, please contact the elementary office (601-758-4289) by 11:00 a.m. that day if there is going to be a change in transportation. No students will be checked out after 2:30, unless it is an emergency. Thanks for your help. If you ever have any questions concerning your child's progress, please feel free to call the elementary school office (601-758-4289) to schedule a conference. I have specific conference times each day. You can also email me from this school notes website. Thanks for your support at Sumrall Elementary School. Remember our motto: LEARNING TAKES THREE: PARENT,TEACHER, AND ME Sincerely, Teresa Hudson
