Go to the following link - Math Facts Doubles Rap Mrs. Teresa Hudson FIRST GRADE WEEKLY NEWS AND LESSON PLANS Week of November 30-December 4 Theme: "Christmas Around the World" CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR DECEMBER STUDENT OF THE MONTH !
Dear Family, The students continue to work very hard to master skills necessary for first grade. It is important that you and your child focus on memorizing sight words, reading fluently, studying spelling words and sentence dictations, learning math skills, and memorizing math facts with sums to 18. Thanks for your help at home. It must continue for your child to progress. The students have many skills to master before first grade promotion in May. We will continue reading in Book 3, the story "Snakes" pages 101-121. Please listen to your child read the basal story each night as part of his/her 20 minutes of reading. Don't forget to sign or initial the reading homework chart each night in the homework folder. Your child will have his/her story selection assessment on Thursday. Study the highlighted basal and Saxon sight words listed in your child's folder. It would be very helpful if you would make sight word flash cards for your child. As we complete each list of sight words, your child will be orally tested on these words. Our next sight words test (Book 3/Saxon) will be on Tuesday, December 15. We will continue Spelling List 12 this week. Your child will have a practice assessment on Wednesday and the retake assessment on Friday. If your child has a perfect paper on the spelling words and/or sentence dictations, he/she will not have to retake it on Friday. The words are getting progressively harder so make sure and study the words and dictations daily. If you ever have any questions concerning your child's progress, please feel free to call the elementary school office (601-758-4289) to schedule a conference. I have specific conference times each day. You can also email me from this website or to my Lamar County School District address at www.teresa.hudson@lamarcountyschools.org. Thanks for your support at Sumrall Elementary School. Remember our motto: LEARNING TAKES THREE: PARENT,TEACHER, AND ME !
