(1.) 8th grade...Cover your textbook. Do not use Contact self-stick bookcovers.



(2.) Write a prayer of at least 4 sentences using each of the elements of the A.C.T.S. prayer model. This prayer will be the beginning invocation for our class period which will be student led starting this Wednesday. We will proceed alphabetically through the class list. The elements are:



A.=ADORATION.....Adoring/giving love to God, the Lord

Jesus, and the Holy Spirit



C.=Confession....Admitting the ways we fall short to God



T.=Thanksgiving..Giving thanks for the blessings we have



S.=Supplication..Asking God, the Lord Jesus, or the Holy Spirit to help or meet others needs.

7th Grade:  Read Chapter 1 section 1 pp. 6-13

Define the Key Words in section 1 of your 3 subject spiral.

7th Grade: Learn the definitions to the Key Words in section 1 of chapter 1.

8th Grade: Section Reviews p. 10, p.14, and p.19 will be graded tomorrow.  They were supposed to be completed for today.  The vocabulary definitions and copied section notes are due tomorrow.

September 4th

7th grade:  Copy the GRS (guided reading study) nd fill -in the metric chart.

8th grade:  Fill-in your metric chart.

Labor Day...........No School

September 8th         Current Event Week

All classes are to concentrate on learning/memoring their Metric Systems chart.

September 9th

7th grade:  Continue to study the metrics chart.  Your first Current Event is due this Friday.

Read section #2 of chapter 1 pp. 14-18 and complete the GRS.  Also list and definite the new vocabulary words in the first section of your spiral notebook.

8th Grade:  Continue to study the metrics chart.  Your first Current Event is due this Friday.

Complete the DRL for chapter 1 by tomorrow.  The rest of the chapter 1 materials are due on Friday.

September 10th

7th Grade: Current Eventth is due and the section #2 vocabulary words should be defined in your spiral notebook.

8th grade:  Current Event is due along with the rest of the Chapter 1 materials: VRW; RW; CT; and SPT2.

7th Grade Health: Health Current Event (HCE)---2 are due this month with the first next week.

Your ten (10) nutrition labels and ingredients list from the following products are also due at your next class: 1. regular sugar soda, 2. diet soda, 3. caffiene-free soda, 4. Macaroni and cheese mix which you add milk and butter to prepare, 5. loaf of white bread, 6. loaf of whole wheat or whole grain bread, 7. canned green beans, 8. whole milk, 9. ready to eat canned pineapple or another canned ready to eat fruit, 10. tuna fish canned in oil.

Do not buy anything for the labels.  You may collect them from relatives and family friends if you do not have them in your home.  Or, you may search and print out the manufacturers from their company websites.

September 11th

All Health classes Health Current Event is due.  8th Grade food labels are due.

All Science classes will have their first Quest next week.  The two major topics being tested will be the Metric System and the Scientific Method.  All chapter 1 vocabulary will also be covered on this Quest.

7th grade: Define the rest of the key terms for Chapter 1 in  your spiral notebook for Monday.

8th grade: Bring all chapter 1 materials to class.

September 14th

ALL Classes we will have our first official Quest this week.  The Topics being tested...Scientific Method (PIHERC) and the Metric System.  You will need to know the chapter 1 vocabulary/key terms from your textbook.  Begin reviewing.

8th Grade:  Begin Quest vocabulary review.

7th Grade:  Complete the Review worksheet and the Enrichment worksheet.

8th Grade health:  10 nutrition and ingredients labels are due.

7th Grade Health: Bring your colored pencils to class.

September 15th

All science classes complete the 2 worksheets on linear metric measure.  Remember on page 1 you read the measurement and write the measurement in centimeters. Hint-put a straight edge alongside the arrow to help clearly see which metric mark is being pointed at by the arrow.  Page 2 you will use a straight edge and draw an arrow indicating the measurement listed.

The Quest will be on Friday.  A Quest is a little longer than a quiz, but not as long as a chapter test.

8th Grade health:  10 nutrition and ingredients labels are due.

7th Grade Health: Bring your colored pencils to class.

All health classes should have at least one health current event in by the end of this week.

September 16th

7th grade: Study chapter 1 vocabulary...Quest Friday

8th Grade:  Copy p.  731 the procedure for using measuring devices  into your note section of your spiral.  List the 3 procedures in the following order: (1) Meterstick/metric rule, (2) Graduated cylinder, then (3) triple beam balance.

All Classes...How's your PIHERC Knowledge?

September 17th

All Classes tomorrow is our first science quest>  here are some questions you should be able to answer:

Scientific Method/Scienific Inquiry:

1.  What is PIHERC?  2.  What does each letter of the acronym stand for?  3. What is done during each step of PIHERC? 4. What is the most important step of PIHERC and why?  5. What maks a hypothesis educated?  6. Why is hypothesizing different from inferring and predicting?  7. What makes a hypothesis testable?  8. What is a controlled experiment?  9. What are variables?  10. Differentiate between a manipulated variable and the responding variable?  11. How do we organize data so that it is meaningful to a reader of our experiment? 12. What must be discussed in your conclusion?

The Metric System:

1. Can you write out the metric numberline?  2. Do you know the value that each metric prefix means?  3.  Can you tell if one of two different metric unit sizes  is greater than, less than, or of equal value?  4. Do you know the abbreviation for each prefix/unit size?  5. Can you change the interger/decimal to match the unit size change by sliding the decimal point?  6. Can you read the length of an object in centimeters or millimeters on a metric rule/meterstick?  7. What are the 3 standard units of the metric system?  8. What is each standard unit used to measure?  9. In which country was the metric system originated and currently housed?  10. What country is the lone holdout and has not adopted the metric system as its measurement system?

8th Grade: Read Chapter 2 section 1...What is Matter?  Answer the section review questions on p. 42.  Define the vocabulary words and copy the section notes into your spiral notebook by Wednesday.

September 22nd

7th Grade: Complete "What is Life Science" review worksheet

8th Grade: Complete section 1 of the chapter 2 DRW.

Seventh Grade Health: Color the first page of the skeletal system (cranium, spine, and rib diagrams) using the coloring code on the back of the first page.

September 24th

7th Grade:  Study the steps for using a triplebeam balance that you copied from the Appendix of the old life science text.  Learn the 4 hints that I gave you to making accurate measurements with a graduated cylinder.  Finally, study your new vocabulary.

8th Grade:  Finish reading section 2 of chapter 2.  Complete the 2nd section of your DRW and do the two section reviews on pp. 46 & 51.

Seventh Grade Health: Color the first page of the skeletal system (cranium, spine, and rib diagrams) using the coloring code on the back of the first page.

 

Eighth Grade Health:  Answer the 4 questions from the first chapter of the Book of Genesis.  Bring your Bible to health class.

September 28th   This week finishes grades for Interims

7th Grade:  Complete the balance beam packet by reading the scales and calculating the mass represented on each set of triple beams.  Be sure to give your answer to the second decimal place as we practiced with the Ohaus reading a triple beam balance program.

8th Grade:  Study your new vocabulary words.

September 29th

All classes use tonight to complete and turn in tomorrow any outstanding work.  Refer to the checklist given to you in class today.

7th Grade:  Learn the parts of the triple beam balance.

8th Grade:  Review new vocabulary and review how you convert metric measurements from the ones place to the thousands place, i.e.  from grams to kilograms. (Hiint: count the places on the numberline and move the decimal that many places in the direction you are moving on the line.) 

September 30th    Current event due Friday!

7th Grade:  C2 section 1 Vocabulary Quiz Friday.  Read C2 section 2 on classification and define the Key Terms in your spiral notebook.

8th Grade:  C2 Vocabulary Quiz on Friday.  Bring the C2 DRW to class tomorrow for grading.

8th Grade Health classes:  read the 11th chapter of the book of Leviticus in the Bible.  As you read the different foods that were allowed and prohibited try to come up with a reasonable answer as to why some foods were allowed to be eaten and others were not allowed to be eaten.

7th Grade Health classes:  Color and label the second diagram page of the skeletal system (the appendicular skeleton system).

October 1st

All classes...vocabulay quiz...current event due.

October 2nd

7th Grade:  Complete GRS 2.2 on classification.

8th Grade:  review C2 vocabulary...review the charts and learn the charts on chemical properties and physical properties.

7th Grade Health:  Color and label the second page (appendicular skeletal system) and complete the chart on the front of th packet.

8th Grade Health:  Read the 11th chapter of Leviticus.  As you read the foods allowed to be eaten and those not allowed...ask yourself-why?  What do you know about animal diseases and their transfer to humans.

October 5th

7th Grade:  Know the Kings Play Chess On Fine Grained Sand neumonic and the taxonomic group that each letter stands. Be familiar with the history of the development of taxonoy; its founder; the uniqueness of a binomial nomenclature name; and the reasons for the development of the system of naming organisms.  Know the 3 domains and the 6 kingdoms that belong in each.

8th Grade: Know the density formula.  Be able to explain why density is a derived quanity.  Know what units are used in the derivation. Be able to calculate the volume of a regular shaped solid.  Be able to measure the volume of a liquid.  Be able to calculate the density of either a regular solidgrams / (LxWxH) or a liquidgrams / mLs.  Know how to calculate a Tare Weight.

October 6th

7th grade None....Black Rock Tomorrow

8th  grade...Review Density concepts.

I will be at Black Rock with the 7th grade.  You will be expected to complete any classwork not finished during class along with the specific ditto(es) assigned as homework for each night.

8th Grade Health:  The 4 page packet on biblical diets will be due completed at your next health class.  Pay particular attention to page 4.  You will use this information to prepare a 2 to 3 page typed report that  will be counted as a test.  In this report you most cite specific Bible verses and incorporate scripture quotes into your report.

This is the week your 4th Current Event is due!

7th Grade health:  Bring Skeletal System dittoes to class.  The drawings should be both colored and labeled.  The chart should be filled out.

7th Grade:  Review the vocabulary for chapter 2.2 on classification.  Complete both sides of the single page ditto.  Each side of the ditto is a separate grade: Review & Enrichment.

Wednesday of this week You are to turn into me a 2 to 3 paragraph report on your experience at Black Rock.  You should discuss in detail 2 new things you learned from each of 2 different Black Rock classes. Then in your final paragraph discuss the devotions and what you learned about the "Body of Christ" and how it impacted you.

7th Grade:  Current Event is due Friday. 

There will be a quiz on Classification Chapter 2 section 2 also on Friday.  Use this evening to review the vocabulary for classification. 

Do you know the 3 domains and their characteristics?  Do you know the 7 taxons in order from Kingdom through species?  Do you know the history of the development of Taxonomy?  Do you understand the term binomial nomenclature and it's application in identifying an organism?  Do you understand that as we progess down the taxons that the numbers of organisms at each level become less and less, because at each lower level more specific chararcteristics are shared?
